3.0 out of 5 stars Helpful, colorful, and somewhat interesting, Oct 18 2005

This review is from: Journey to the Chianti: Getting to Know an Ancient Tuscan Region (Hardcover)
Beautiful pictures with the romantic landscapes and still life photos that one should expect in a book that covers this topic. However, the information about the cities and history are a bit pop culture. The writing on Sienna is certainly more appreciated than Florence (which one can read about in the public library), but there is not enough fascination by the author about the small villages and quaint towns in Crete such as Montecello, which hold the true history of the region.

In place of this book, I'd recommend buying a nice photo album of Chianti and then a poket-size (and lighter) tour guide book -- both equally inspiring to make one travel to this wonderful region of Italy.
