Product Description

From Booklist

Beattie, whose The Language of Letting Go (1991) was a best-seller, now slices her message into 365 daily aphorisms, or as she calls them, meditations. There's nothing much wrong with this book as volumes of New Age philosophy go, but it doesn't break any new ground, either. The framework derives from an actual automobile trip that Beattie took across the West with stops at mystical sites such as Sedona, Arizona, and Chaco Canyon, New Mexico. This is no travelogue, however. Neither is it like her previous books, which were, as Beattie testifies, "grounded in pain." The focus here is on discovering a new way to live through joy and hope. The meditations themselves, however, are hardly fresh: "Worrying doesn't help. Our worries are self-punishment, a form of not forgiving ourselves, not loving ourselves, not trusting." Or, "Right now, this moment, things are working out. . . . Everything is working out, moving forward, evolving." It is only through a certain amount of repetition that Beattie can come up with 365 of these meditations. Perhaps best known for Codependent No More (1989), Beattie has added the New Age crowd to her followers. Expect demand where crystals glimmer. Ilene Cooper

I am so impressed with this book, I have learned from reading the daily meditations, to stop fighting the course of life.. that's already mapped out, waiting for me to catch up. Release my fears and add my creativity to this world. Sometimes, I go back to some of the pages for reference, to keep me on the road to healing. I've learned to comfort myself and to be still and listen to that inner voice, which gives me peace and allows me to breath with such completness. I'm not afraid to take the next step now... through reading your book and being disciplined in other areas of my life . I found out that life can be so easy , if we just move out of the way and let the universe that surrounds us steer our path. Thank you Melody for being so real and opening up your heart and soul...What a gift you have - given to me and others . I'm not afraid to take the next step ...because guess what?...no matter where I try to run or hide ....ME! .. follows!!

I really enjoyed this book. I like the idea of taking a trip alone - a "vision quest" - to mystically themed places. I also like the fact that Melody visited the area I live in and mentions it in this book, the Willamette Valley in Oregon - it makes me feel like I live in an exciting and intetersting place (yes, I find the idea of going to a forest to be exciting). Wouldn't you love to see the vortexes in Sadona, the Willamette National Forest, the Grand Canyon?
I first became aware of Melody Beattie because of her book CODEPENDENT NO MORE, and I have liked her writing ever since. She is very compassionate and does not let the tragedies of her life (such as the loss of her son when he was only a teen, written about in THE LESSONS OF LOVE) get in the way of her enjoyment of life. Rather than let tragedy harden her view of life, she allows it to increase her compassion for others.
I think it must've been wonderful to have traveled to these places alone, all the while recording one's thoughts and knowing that some day others would read them.

This book provides daily insight into why we experience changes throughout our lives and how we can face them with a positive attitude. Beattie's compassionate, understanding writing will help the reader to understand the need for the unknown and how we learn life's lessons. Each obstacle we face in life provides a lesson to lead us on our journey. The book is written in a style so that the reader can read one passage each day to focus that day's thoughts. I found that reading a passage each day helped me to "survive" a difficult change I was experiencing. Now that I have made it through the chaos, I realize what an inspiration Beattie's book was for me. As I take the next step and look forward to the unknown, Beattie's words continue to inspire me.

I LOVE THIS BOOK!!! I have made a commitment to myself to read each daily reading BEFORE I get out of bed in the morning. I can't tell you how much of a positive mindset this puts me in for the day ahead--an unconscious mindset, but a positive mindset still the same. Most of the underlying messages are things that I already know in my heart to be true, but to see them in black and white and be reminded of them daily is so very inspirational. I purchased this book for myself in June 1998 and have already given it as a gift to three of my closest friends--all of them have loved it. I would highly recommend this book for anyone seeking inner peace and a deeper connection within themselves. Thank you, Melody, for a wonderful start to my day.

This book really has changed my life. I've read it cover-to-cover at least five times and each time I read it I am inspired. Melody's words truly are a "melody to the soul." I've shared quotes from the book with friends and family and they have all said they just had to purchase a copy for themselves. Today I'm buying one for my 19-year old niece who is just discovering "who she is" and has said she wants to grow spirituality. I'm sure this book will give her spiritual concepts to consider throughout the day and will help her to develop an open mind and a loving heart.

This book is a wonderful way to begin your own Journey to your Heart. It has literally changed my life. It talks of feeling all your feelings, good or bad and helped me to realize that pain as well as happiness are all part of life. I want to thank Melody Beattie for writing this book and sharing her experience of her spiritual travels and her own Journey to the Heart. Each day that I read from these pages, I am inspired. I see the world in a different light and am able to find an inner peace that is hard to find in this tough world.

This meditation book goes directly to the heart. For those of us who are traveling the path to live according to what our heart tells us, this book is a must read. Whether I pick it up daily, or only periodically, it is always dead on. For those people who are recovering, I find that this takes meditation and recovery into 'level 3' where you no longer focus at all on the problem, but rather focus entirely on the journey and where it can take you if you can just listen. Personally I love Melody Beattie for who earthy heart-felt prose.
