This treasure is every bit as charming, playful and witty as Julia herself. I read it in one delightful sitting. The book is thoroughly entertaining from beginning to end, and is studded with photos of Julia's beloved kitties. It's obvious the authors had great fun researching and writing this sweet book -- there are many whimsical grace notes throughout. I plan to give this as a gift for the cat lovers and Julia-philes in my life. I highly recommend it!

Minou, Minette, meow! Aug. 8 2012
By Jon Hunt - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
On the eve of the hundredth anniversary of Julia Child's birth, I read this delightful reminiscence of Julia's life with her cats. While many recent books have chronicled her life with Paul through France and elsewhere, this short volume focuses on her adorable "poussiequettes".

Julia and Paul seemed to have had as many cats as cats have lives and the book is complementary to her life in the kitchen with each cat assuming a knowledge of how to win her affection...or how to get around the rules. There are many accompanying photos of their different cats but two back-to-back ones at the end are really a testament to her love. The first shows Julia, a week before her death, with Minou on her lap. The flip side pictures her with Minette in Paris, more then fifty years before.

Authors Patricia Barey and Therese Burson have compiled a warm, loving book about the relationship between human and feline. It's a wonderful summer read...or for that matter...at any time of the year.

Good choice for a book for a cook with cats? Well, maybe...3.5 stars Oct. 18 2012

This small book explores the life of Julia Child, from her days as a 36-year-old newlywed in postwar Paris until her death in California, two days before her 92nd birthday in 2004. It runs a mere 149 pages, with lots of black and white photos and a focus that's way more on Julia--her happy marriage to Paul and how she went from learning French cooking to teaching French cooking, to writing French cooking cookbooks, to becoming America's French Chef--than it is on her "poussiequettes." Yes, there were many of them over the years--but that was in large measure because every time "JuPaul," as they were known, pulled up stakes and moved, which was often, their "poussiequette(s)" got left behind and replaced with new ones.

Although the telling sometimes became a tad too twee for me, I enjoyed reading about Julia Child's life. I probably would have enjoyed it more had "JuPaul" packed up the cats along with the cookbooks when they moved.

This book is a treasure! Aug. 17 2012

Full of surprising stories about Julia's love of poussiequettes, and charming photos that make you feel as though you're paging through her own scrapbook. Lots of quotes from Julia's letters -- I could almost hear her warbly voice. I've read other biographies, but this one best captures Julia's zest for life. It's beautifully written, funny and very touching, and will make a great gift for all my friends -- Julia lovers, food lovers, Paris lovers, and most of all, cat lovers.
