Product Description

Album Description

Jupiters Darling features 16 sweet rocking tunes by the sisters of Heart. Led by siblings Ann and Nancy Wilson, Heart struck a crucial blow for feminisim in the male-dominated world of '70s rock. They could switch from powerful, Zeppelin-like grandeur to gorgeous acoustic ballads in the blink of an eye and turned out a stream of radio staples. By the '80s, they were churning out slick pop, but the sisters re-emerged in the '90s in stripped-down acoustic duo format as the Lovemongers.

4.0 out of 5 stars After 12 years...new material...it's about time ladies!!!, July 11 2004

This review is from: Jupiters Darling (Audio CD)
You have to understand, when I first heard many months ago that Ann and Nancy were going back into the studio for new material, I thought that I would need to be institutionalized. Yes, call it ridiculous, but I am an extreme Heart fan. I was pumped and every friggin week I checked the web for info on the new album. So when this baby hit the stores recently I was outside the music store 45 minutes before it opened, just to be sure I got this album. Okay so I am a little obsessed, sorry. Now onto the album.

Initially, after listening to the album once, I was kind of unsure of what I actually thought. So I listened a couple more times and really started to enjoy it. What really turned my key for this album happened one night. Heart appeared on Jay Leno and performed "The Perfect Good-bye." Just seeing them again was all I needed.

Just being able to hear Ann and Nancy's beautiful voices again is a gift. But being a sometimes "critic" of any artist and their music, forced me to pick and choose the stronger from the weaker tracks on this album. The standout tracks are as follows 2, 4, 5, 6, 9 and 14. "Move on" is track 6, this is the best track on the album, it rocks!!! The album in a nutshell runs from a comparison of their Dreamboat Annie days to a new sound, which kind of runs off of the Lovemongers side project of a few years ago.

I will say this, it has been 12 years, they don't have Howard Leese in the band anymore, so the guitar sound is different a bit. "Desire Walks On" was a long time ago, and I admit I am still closer to it and their eighties sound, "Brigade" and their self titled album with "These Dreams" and "Never" is more my cup of tea.

I am not disappointed, I am enjoying this album, but will say that their best material is behind them. They have nothing to prove to me, cause I adore their musical talents overall. Fans should not slam these legendary rockers who have been around for about 30 years, they should respect and appreciate it as is.

5.0 out of 5 stars Possibly Heart's Best, July 1 2004
This review is from: Jupiter's Darling (Audio CD)
Heart has evidently found a new source of musical inspiration.
This record is absolutely packed with amazing riffs, lyrics and arrangements. The goose bumps appeared on my very first listen.
My hunch is that Nancy Wilson is responsible for much of this record's wonderful feel, as her name appears first on most of the song-writing credits and she sings a bit more lead than she usually does. The rest of the band seems to have been thrilled to go along with her on this incredible musical journey. The bottom line is: Heart has never sounded better.
What a terrific album!

5.0 out of 5 stars Jupiters Darling's a return to form!, July 1 2004

Hard rock, beautiful ballads and everything in between makes this new CD from Heart a fan's dream. JD is all the great parts of Heart from the 70's and all the great parts of Heart from the 80's -- minus the Dianne Warren pap and overly commercial production. There's radio friendly songs like the single "The Perfect Goodbye" and the rock radio ready "Oldest Story in the World." There's also a departure of sorts in the swampy, blues harp influenced "Down the Nile" and a beautiful Nancy sung ballad "I Need the Rain." Also check out "Fallen Ones" with Jerry Cantrell on guitar and "Lost Angel." This is a great addition to your Heart collection and to any CD collection.
