It all comes down to chemistry. And the two main stars of Just Go with It, Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler, thankfully, have chemistry to spare. Both actors have plenty of sheer likability and honest ease, as well as sparks in just the right places, which helps propel Just Go with It to its satisfying (if a bit predictable) conclusion. (Hollywood execs: Consider an update of Moonlighting starring these two.) If the premise, loosely based on the Goldie Hawn film Cactus Flower, stretches reality, the capability of the whole cast makes Just Go with It an enjoyable ride. Sandler plays Danny, a surgeon who falls for a much-younger bombshell, Palmer (swimsuit model Brooklyn Decker, a surprisingly natural actress). But when Palmer finds the fake wedding band that commitment-phobe Danny has used for his no-strings-attached previous relationships, the web of fibs begins. Danny asks his assistant, Katherine (Aniston), to pretend to be his soon-to-be-ex-wife, and Aniston plays it to the hilt. But soon Danny's wobbly house of cards includes Katherine's children--and, in the ultimate romantic-comedy trope, a group trip to Hawaii to work things out. The cast really is stellar, including very small supporting roles by Nicole Kidman and singer Dave Matthews, as an insufferable couple disliked intensely by Katherine. (Of course they end up in Hawaii with the gang, too.) Minka Kelly, Kevin Nealon, and Rachel Dratch also make memorable cameos. But it's Sandler and Aniston, along with the snappy direction by Dennis Dugan (Happy Gilmore, Big Daddy), who make Just Go with It one of the more romantic--and funny--romantic comedies in recent memory. Our advice: Sit back, and just go with it. --A.T. Hurley

3.0 out of 5 stars Another so-so Happy Madison production Jun 14 2011
By LeBrain HALL OF FAME TOP 50 REVIEWER
Format:Blu-ray
Just Go With It, Adam Sandler's latest juvenile romp, finds the mega-star in familiar territory. Once again he is trying to win the affections of a young blonde co-star, the gimmick this time being that everything he's told her is based on a little white lie.

Sandler is Sandler -- no better nor worse than anything else he's been in lately. Surprisingly funny was Jennifer Aniston, the type I usually yawn at. Here she managed to snag a lot of the snarkiest lines and did just fine with them. New on the scene is Brooklyn Decker, pure eye candy who has absolutely no acting skills, or comedy chops, whatsoever.

The story is nothing new so I won't bore you with details. It's based on an old story called Cactus Flower, and I am told that there was an old Egyptian film with the same plot as well. However, bottom line is this: Sandler's a nice guy who's been burned at the alter before, but has found that his old wedding ring is the perfect aphrodesiac for young single women. After meeting school teacher Palmer (Decker) he's smitten, but already knee deep in a web of lies regarding the ring. Into his web he draws Aniston, her kids, and his cousin Eddie who all play along for their own reasons.

First of all, the plot is completely unbelievable. Everything happens so fast that there is no way that you believe that the young beautiful Palmer could possibly be in love with this guy already. And the same goes for Sandler. After bedding every young women hither and yon, there's no believable rationale given for why Palmer seems like the one for him. And then everything changes by the ending, which also feels completely unbelievable after everything we've been through.

However, put those thoughts aside. You'll never get through the movie asking questions like that!

Bottom line, is it funny?

Like most Sandler movies, it's funny more often than not. Yeah, it has its dumb moments. (I couldn't get past that prosthetic nose in the opening.) But it also has a decent heart, a couple cute kids, and enough of a good performance from Sandler and Aniston to save the film. There were also some entertaining cameos from friends such as Nicole Kidman, Dave Matthews (yeah...the Dave Matthews!) and Allen Covert among others. All in all, it's a funny movie. Just not a funny movie with a believable plot.

Since the movie mostly takes place in Hawaii, there's plenty of beautiful scenery (and I'm not talking about Brooklyn Decker) that looks great in 1080p. The blu-ray has bonus features a-plenty including one on Decker and the ususual assorted deleted scenes.

It's not a bad movie, I mean...it made me laugh. It also turned my brain into swiss cheese, but there's a niche for movies like this to exist. It could have been written better. But, it is what it is. If you like Sandler's usual forays into romantic comedy, such as The Wedding Singer, or 50 First Dates, then try Just Go With It. It is definitely the weakest of the three films, but maybe you'll like it.

2.5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really a Fun Film! Feb 13 2011
By CMCM - Published on Amazon.com
I went to see the movie with modest expectations, especially since some reviews haven't been overly kind to it. However, I as well as the 4 other people who saw it with me found it uproariously funny and sometimes even sweet. I really enjoy Adam Sandler in most of his films, and although this is a comedy, in this role he also displayed his sweet side much like he did in the Wedding Singer. He is actually a very good and expressive actor whose dramatic chops are underrated in many ways. And of course, I am a huge fan of the wonderful Jennifer Aniston, and she did a superb job here. There were also some other surprises....Brooklyn Decker was sweet, likable and relatable even beyond her obvious physical attributes. Nicole Kidman showed up in a character who was a bit over the top, but being a huge fan of her as well, I enjoyed this turn as we don't get to see her do comedy that often. Not every role needs to be deadly serious, after all. She had a lot of fun with this one and she was great to watch. Dave Matthews played her husband, and he was surprisingly good as well...perhaps he has a new career ahead of him in films. The only character that was too over the top and a bit obnoxious was the fellow who played Adam's long-time friend. Nothing about this guy was at all believable or particularly likable and you wanted to just swat him away as he was just downright silly and annoying, and he didn't really add much to the plot except as a necessary diversion device here and there. The Hawaii scenery (a lot of it filmed around and in the Grand Wailea in Maui) was beautiful, of course. I don't really want to get overly picky about this film. It was not meant to be highbrow cinema, but it was consistently funny and very enjoyable, definitely a film I plan to buy when it is released on DVD. Go see it, you'll like it.

This movie is HILARIOUS!!! Easy the best comedy I have seen in a long long time. Everything is really well done, and even though the ending is obvious as anything you just REALLY enjoy the ride. Kind of like life, you know the ending but you gotta know how you get there. If you don't see this movie, then I just pity you. You'd be missing out on something that is just great. I came to Amazon immediately after watching the movie to try to place a preorder...IT'S THAT GOOD!!!!!

I got a great kick out of this movie. my gut hurt I was laughing so hard. It had a lot of laughs and a few heart warming parts. I love ad-lib and sarcasm and even though it was scripted, the dialog had such a ad-lib feeling hints the title "JUST GO WITH IT". I'd see it again, Ill buy the DVD. ... oh and Dave Matthews!!! great member of the cast.
