How this story came to be:
"I was visiting the Northwest Territories and this kind man from Hay River lent me his truck so I wouldn't get stuck while driving around. When I got back to his home to return the truck, his daughter Ciara was there all ready for a hockey game—she was in her team uniform and her mom was going to drive her all the way across town to the rink.
I asked them why there wasn't a rink on the river right near their house. Ciara's dad explained that the river ice was a mess. But Ciara agree that it would be nice to play on a rink close by.
Right then a story came into my head! I wrote it on my plane ride to Edmonton, sent it to Ciara, and asked if she wanted to be in a book."
