I plugged it into my 39" HDTV with the supplied cable, the Android splash screen appeared, and after a minute the Android Jellybean interface was on screen.
One minor irritant - the supplied InfraRed remote came without the 2 required AAA batteries. Once powered up, the remote worked - but it is a bit of a pain to use. There is a mouse mode, in which the D-Pad arrow buttons move the pointer VERY slowly around the screen. Luckily, I had an RF air-mouse and its USB dongle from Equiso, which made navigating the Jellybean desktop much more enjoyable.
The first app I installed from the Play store was Antutu Benchmark. This quad-core Rockchip 3188 CPU is blazing fast! I got a score of 18,222!
I am connected to my home WiFi, and I am able to stream video from Netflix, Youtube and my Plex server with excellent quality.
The Hossen EKB311 media player is an excellent value for the money.
As far as YouTube, I was very impressed with the clarity and smoothness of the videos playing.
In my opinion, this device isn't great until you install XBMC, and then it becomes a whole new animal. It can play 1080p movie files fairly well over the network, but downmixes Dolby and DTS streams to stereo. Although it does have a SPDIF passthrough option, it doesn't work yet without a hack.
All in all, it's still good bang for buck, as long as you aren't buying it as a Netflix machine.
