I heard this piece of music on the radio years ago and longed to have a copy, but I couldn't remember what it was called or who wrote it. Recently I was sorting through papers in a drawer and found a scrap of paper on which I had written the title and composer. I went on Amazon and found and ordered the CD. When I listened to this music for the second time I found it to be more moving and stirring than I had remembered. I had been in a low mood for a while and burdened by chores, but as the CD played I sat down in a chair and let myself be carried away by the music. It brought to mind a psychedelic paradise of movement, colour and life as I choreographed a spectacular ballet in my mind. What else can I say but that it blew me away?

fine work by underrated composer

I was not familiar with this work until I heard it on the BBC (as a request from another listener). The Ode to Birds and Rainbow is a work written in remembrance of the death of composer Takashi Yoshimatsu's sister. It is colorfully orchestrated and has some beautiful moments. This is not "hard core" accademic music, but it never dips into sugery new age sentimentality, either. It is well-played and recorded, and serves as a good introduction to this composer's oeuvre.
