Product Description

From the Back Cover

Episodes:
Rural Retreat - Hyacinth decides it's time to bring a little civilization to a rural corner. Dragging Richard to country estate agents, she demands "charm, tranquility, and an exclusive postcode." Honeysuckle Cottage sounds ideal, but Hyacinth hasn't reckoned with animals without a sense of decorum.
Let There Be Light - Daddy's finally lost his marbles and is reliving wartime exploits in the Church Hall. Meanwhile, Richard, reluctantly tampering with the electricity, is about to start the bring and buy with a bang. With Rose and Daisy chasing daddy around the hall, how is Hyacinth supposed to welcome the Drummonds from the Grange in an appropriate manner?
Please Mind Your Head - Hyacinth has found her country mansion, even if they can only afford the attic rooms. "It's not small," she admonishes Richard, "it's old world bijou". A tea and cucumber sandwich party is obviously the right way to entertain, but if all the guests arrive at once - they're going to need a shoe-horn to get them out again!

Poor Hyacinth Bucket (played by Patricia Routledge), pronounced "Bouquet," is on an eternal quest to keep up appearances. Forever scheming ways to be thought richer and more important than she is, she's a terror to her husband Richard (Clive Swift), her family, her neighbors, and just about everyone she comes into contact with! Sadly for her, but fortunately for us, her schemes and plans always end in uproarious disaster. These are the adventures of Hyacinth Bucket, forever keeping up appearances!
My family and I are great fans of British comedy, and there are few anywhere near as good as Keeping Up Appearances! Patricia Routledge is one of Britain's comedic geniuses, and she plays Hyacinth beautifully. My kids sometimes get indignant at Hyacinth's many attempts at one-upmanship, but you always know that at the end, her sins will find her out.
This is a great Britcom, one that I highly recommend to all fans of good comedy! This particular tape has three half-hour episodes on it:
Rural Retreat - Season 4, episode 2 (September 12, 1993) - Hyacinth decides that what she needs is a little place in the country, and off she goes with the protesting Richard in tow. Also, there's bad news for all of the boyfriends of Hyacinth's oversexed sister, Rose, she has decided to write her memoirs!
Let there Be Light - Season 4, episode 7 (October 17, 1993) - Hyacinth has volunteered Richard to look at the church's electrics, but does he know what he's doing? To make matters even worse, Hyacinths very un-presentable family shows up with her daddy, looking to have him exercised by the vicar!
Please Mind Your Head - Season 4, episode 6 (October 10, 1993) - Hyacinth has bought her little place in the country, unfortunately tiny might be a better word. And, when Hyacinth invites a few guests, hilarity ensues.

Anxious for the next episode with Pat Routledge! Sept. 3 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com

There isn't another comedy like this one. I have my VCR automaticly set to tape every episode and when I'm home, I also watch it while it's being taped! Please believe me, the more I see of this terribly humerous series, the more dissappointment I feel in knowing they have canceled the series.
Possibly the best britcom series! May 17 2000
By Denise L. Hall - Published on Amazon.com

I have seen the whole series of Keeping up Appearances and loved all the episodes, but the Rural Retreat shows were, no doubt, the funniest. Pat Routledge is the British version of Lucille Ball. The entire cast is perfect, and you will believe these people all really exist! Funniest stuff you will ever see and best of all, it's comedy without all the usual gimmicks. If you buy just one British comedy, this is the one to own and watch over and over!

Looking for a summer house? See this first! Feb. 9 1999

She is the woman to watch. I couldn't pick a more suitable role model for young ladies today. The manor house is spectacular, how can they afford it? Who shall be the Buckets first guest? I would gladly attend just to watch the mayhem!

A must for British comedy fans! How they wrote such good comedy is beyond me. You won't find anything like it in the United States. Good wholesome comedy for the whole family! Thumbs up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! END
