We purchased this to go on hikes with our 2 year old. overall this was a great purchase and highly recommend it. If you're looking for even greater comfort and ease of use I recommend looking at newer models but be prepared to pay quite a bit more.

Here's what we like:
1) sturdy construction, steel frame, good workmanship evident
2) ample storage making it easy to access diapers, snacks etc
3) adjustable carrier component based on child's height and fully and easily adjustable for the adult carrying the pack (I'm 5'3" and my husband is 6'4" and we could easily adjust the pack back and forth)
4) our toddler was up high and could see everything and appeared quite comfortable
5) auto-deploy kick stand comes in handy
5) can't beat the price

Here's what could be improved upon:
1) foot stirrups for the child would be nice
2) dirt collects in the carrier when child opts to keep legs in (happened a lot with our child)
3) the taller the child the further away they are from the adult carrying them. This means you notice the shifting weight much more and it also means the childs head is more likely to dangle while sleeping
4) a sun canopy should really come standard with the item
5) putting the backpack on with child in can be tricky. difficult for a smaller person to do alone.

Great carrier Dec 26 2010

We bought this carrier to use on hiking/camping trips. It's a great carrier and my son loves to ride in it. Plenty of storage, the straps are soft and comfy, and it's very helpful that it stands up on its own. My only complaints are that 1) it doesn't keep the passenger's legs and hips in an ergonomic position; having the babies legs just dangle is not good for their growth/development. I would be 100% satisfied with the carrier if it kept the child in a sitting rather dangling position. The stirrups we bought separately help with that, but only if he keeps his feet in them. My other complaint is that my center of gravity is thrown off while wearing this because the child sits so far back away from the wearer. If the child were positioned closer to the wearer's body it would be much more comfortable. It's not a problem for me because I'm tall and have good balance, but my wife is 5'2 and cannot use this carrier (which is fine for us since she'd prefer a lower-profile carrier anyway, but it would be fantastic if we could both use this one).

Both our kids have LOVED Keltys! July 16 2011

We bought this to replace our old Kelty child carrier, which we purchased secondhand over 5 years ago. The changes in design in that time period are amazing! We love the increased padding and redesign of the waist strap. Tons of storage, we broke it in on a short 7 mile hike, and had enough room for water, snacks, diapers and our first aid kit. This pack is very comfortable for parent and child! The only annoying feature is that the area where the child's feet dangle is enclosed with nylon, so any dirt/mud whatever on baby's shoes is contained in the pack instead of falling to the ground.

Helped us survive Maui vacation w/ kids Nov. 16 2010

We bought this for our trip to Maui. The carrier made going through the airports much easier and our daughter loved being in it. It was also really nice b/c of all the pockets to store things in. The carrier was very stable, which really helped on the treks we did on the road to Hana. Make sure you know about all the adjustments as your comfort level wearing the unit will really increase if everything is "dialed in."

Love this pack! Aug. 25 2011

We love this pack! Our little boy absolutely loves riding around in it whether it is hiking, walking around the block or just working in the yard. He is very comfortable in it and has fallen asleep several times. It is comfortable for both my wife and I to carry him in. I am not in love with the sun shade, our boy usually ends up sticking his head out the side to see because it hinders his view. (i wish it were more like the deuter sun shades) works great for us now, but may be outgrown pretty soon. Our kid is pretty tall and can stand up with his feet in the bottom of the pack putting him well off the saddle at its highest adjustment. Other than that great purchase. The added padding of this over the Fc 1.0 was well worth it!
