4.0 out of 5 stars Ken Waters Notebook, Aug 10 2011

This review is from: Ken Waters' Notebook: "Best Wishes for Good Shooting" (Paperback)
Bought this book after I read Ken Waters Pet Loads. At first was a little bit disappointed, but after reading thru this book I am quite happy with it. Frankly, any reloading material read AFTER reading Pet Loads would be a let down.
This book is a publication of personal letters Ken received when he was writing his Pet Loads column in handloader. I reload old oddball cartridges from the 1800's, there was quite a bit of data here but it is hard to access. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because of the way the letters are organized: strictly by year. I had to write in pencil the cartridge he was talking about on the top of each page. Thus when i want to look up a cartridge I have to flip thru each page to find the cartridge data I need. Very awkward, an index at the end of the book would have helpfully alleviated this. Some of the letters are printed twice...needed a bit of care here from the publisher to catch that. Still, all in all I found it useful for all the data on the old sharps and WCF cartridges. He does talk about more modern ones too though, and also the european cartridges with the metric numbers. If you are trying to decide between Pet Loads and The Notebook, by all means go for Pet Loads. If you have Pet Loads, then the Notebook may add some data for cartridges you are interested in.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Information, Mar 3 2011

If you are a reloader, you need all Ken Waters books. If you do not have Pet Loads, get that book first. This book is a compilation of many letters Ken wrote to reloaders answering their questions. You will have to mine for it, but there is a lot of great data in this book. Its also an enjoyable to read.
