Product Description

Review

`this is an excellent book. It will be greatly appreciated by patients and its existance should be made known to all Renal Patients' Associations. Copies should be available in out-patients departments.' Nephrol Dial Transplant

Book Description

Almost one million people around the world suffer from kidney disease and owe their lives to dialysis or transplantation. Each year in the UK, nearly 10,000 people enter end-stage kidney failure. However over the past 20 years the prospects for treatment and survival have dramatically improved thanks to medical advances. This book has been specially written for these patients and their families. After explaining the causes and symptons of kidney failure, the various treatment options are considered, in particular dialysis and transplantations. Throughout, the book aims to help patients understand how this disease and its treatment will affect them, and to answer many commonly asked questions.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good summary of various kidney diseases and treatments, Feb 28 1999
This review is from: Kidney Failure: The Facts (Paperback)
Even though I am non-specialist in a field of nephrology, this book is not too difficult to read and understand. Also, this book has summarized various kidney diseases and respective treatment very well. But, as for the section of transplant, I think this kind of book should provide more information as like as the immunosuppress drugs which are under development. I beleive hope is the best therapy for patients with chronic diseases.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful book, Feb 23 2012

This review is from: Kidney Failure: The Facts (Paperback)
This is the best book on this topic that I have seen. Although it was published in 1966, and last reprinted in 2002, the information is still very valid. It was written by a British doctor, and many of the specific comments may not be applicable in other countries (I live in the US), but that is a small detail.

If you have kidney failure, and are looking at a future of dialysis or transplant, you need to read this book. It will also arm you with lots of questions for your nephrologist that you might not have thought of.

This, along with information available from websites such as ustransplant.org, will well equipment you for the future.
