However, I soon became frustrated on the first day I had the Kindle out of the box as I couldn't find "Audiobooks" on the Home Menu. I also couldn't download the Audible app, which was supposed to be pre-loaded. I searched online for solutions but nothing mentioned worked. So I phoned Amazon support and spent the next hour and forty minutes being passed to 9 different reps from Amazon, Kindle, Audible, a Kindle "specialist", and no one had an answer. They were all baffled. The reps were all very nice and tried to be helpful but apparently none of them had been informed that this feature is not set up on the Kindle Fire HD in Canada. It is a U.S. feature only, which is very strange because I have downloaded the Audible app on my computer, laptop, iPhone, and iPad and they all work fine. And to top it off, when I search in the Kindle Settings and look at Apps Installed, it says that Audible is installed!!! But somehow it has been blocked by Kindle.
So in the end, I have a little tablet that will download e-books and search the web, and not really anything else that's special or remarkable. Too bad because the Whisper Sync and Immersion Reading sound fantastic. Come on Amazon, you're a huge company with lots of resources - surely you can figure this out.
I am very disappointed in an otherwise seemingly great product, (although I only spent an hour exploring its capability), I would have given 5 stars for price and quality from that short experience with it but after much frustration discovered that I can not have all the benefits promised when you purchase audio books from Audible and Kindle books. They are suppose to both be Amazon company stores but even after repeated calls to both contact numbers neither knew how to make it work. After admitting that there isn't the proper explanation on either website to the fact it doesn't work in Canada and that the Amazon app nor Android app either do not exist in Canada or in Androids case are incompatible with Kindle Fire HD I was left with the option of returning it. Everyone was courteous but the information wasn't available to these employee's because Amazon hasn't been honest about what works in Canada and what doesn't.
The final disappointment of the day was finding out they can not send me a pre-paid return label.Read more ›
