For steadfast and forthright Hank R. Hill ("Not that Hank P. Hill who doesn't pay his Discover Card bill," he clarifies), these are the times that try men's souls: His presidential candidate of choice, George W. Bush, has a limp handshake. His wife, Peggy, and son, Bobby, prefer charcoal grilling to his precious propane. And a new co-worker from Oklahoma is hustling on the side, casting the clueless Hank (voiced by series creator Mike Judge) as her pimp. But the pleasure of King of the Hill is that we can always count on Hank to do the right thing by his town, his friends, his family, and his country. If he heads for the border to keep niece Luanne (Brittany Murphy) from voting Communist (she likes the candidate's red tie), we know he will turn the car around and make it to the polls with a minute to spare. If he gives Arlen High School's star football player an A so he will be eligible to play in the state tournament, we know he will be moved to stand up for his wife, Peggy (Kathy Najimy), who originally flunked him. And if Alabaster Jones (from Oklahoma City) comes to reclaim his "ho," we can be reassured that Hank will "mack daddy" him down.

King of the Hill's fifth season chronicles another momentous year for Bobby (Pamela Segall), who turns 13, is disgraced, but finds redemption, as the school mascot, and saves the life of a drowning pig at the county fair ("Not this pig, not today!"). Pitiable Bill Dauterive (Stephen Root) continues to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous misfortune, as his faithless ex-wife Lenore returns to louse up his budding romance with, yes, former governor Ann Richards (as herself), and he takes in a delinquent who takes advantage of him ("All the books about parenting are by comedians," he laments, "and I never know when they're kidding or when they're serious."). King of the Hill continues to fly under the radar. This three-disc set's only extra is a brief sneak preview of the series' tenth, and final, season. That's seemingly more effort than Fox's cracked marketing team expends on this underappreciated treasure. But check out season 5. When it comes to brilliantly funny character-based comedy, keen social satire, and virtuoso voice work, nobody messes with Texas. --Donald Liebenson

Description

Join "Beavis and Butt-head" creator Mike Judge and former "The Simpsons" writer/producer Greg Daniels as they mosey on back to the land of the Rio Grande, where Hank is wondering if he should vote for a fellow Texan in the presidential election. Later, while Bobby wishes he were older, Dale sues the tobacco company in an attempt to get money for his wife's face-lift so she can look younger. But the real horror comes when Hank gets devastating news about his birth and the future of his pick-up truck!

This review is from: King of the Hill: Complete Season 5 (DVD)
By now you must know that King of The Hill is an excellent animated sitcom and that season five, much like every other seasons is great and the episodes in it are all supurb and watchable. Its also one of the longest running animated shows as well at the time of writting this review. This season is not the best, but like every other KOTH seasons it has its share of classic episodes and moments that makes it great. This season aired during 2000-2001 and was released on DVD in 2005.After all those years the old seasons still remain good and entertaing and that's exactly what season five is,entertaining much like all other seasons by the way.As great as the season is they continued with the poor packaging they started with season 3,wich is unfortunate as the show deserved better treatment on DVD then it did for season 3 and upwards. The Hills encounter several problems again this season and that makes for some very good episodes and there is once again plenty of celebrities.

This season sees many things happening to the Hills such as Hank discovering learning something shocking,he was not born in Texas, there is Bobby's 13th birthday,he also becomes a mascot and Bill becomes even more miserable after an affair with former governor Ann Richards. Some great episodes of the season include "Chasing Bobby" when Hank learns from a mecanic that his beloved truck doesn't have much left in the tank and will not last much longer."Ho Yeah!" when the family takes in a girl who has a mysterious past and works at Strickland propane.Other great episodes includes "What Makes Bobby Run?" and "The Trouble with Gribbles".Some precious moments this season as Hank passing for a pimp(yes with the hat and all!),Dale trying to sue a cigarette company to give Nancy the facelift she wants, but that's just a peak of season five.

Here is the episodes of list of the fifth season of King Of The Hill:

1-The Perils of Polling
2-The Buck Stops Here
3-I Don't Want to Wait
4-Spin the Choice
5-Peggy Makes the Big Leagues
6-When Cotton Comes Marching Home
7-What Makes Bobby Run?
8-'Twas the Nut Before Christmas
9-Chasing Bobby
10-Yankee Hankie
11-Hank and the Great Glass Elevator
12-Now Who's the Dummy?
13-Ho Yeah!
14-The Exterminator
15-Luanne Virgin 2.0
16-Hank's Choice
17-It's Not Easy Being Green
18-The Trouble with Gribbles
19-Hank's Back Story
20-Kidney Boy and Hamster Girl

This season continuing exactly what season 4 did,has no bonus features and each discs has a double side with four episodes each. This time you get artwork like season four wich is nice. Its unfortunate we don't get extras as we did for seasons one and two wich were LOADED with them. The season is five stars but the packaging with no extras at all makes it a four. The best season? Its hard to pick one as there are so many greats seasons but this one has some really good episodes and each ones are great and all watchable. All in all you can't go wrong with this season or any other KOTH seasons on DVD,its worth it and the episodes are amazing. There is no extras wich is a shame but the episodes make up for it and you have an incredible season that you can watch over and over again.Highly recommended for any fans of the show,a must for you collection truly.5 stars for the episodes but a four overral because the lack of extras.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another great season of America's less known other animated family, Mar 9 2006
By James Rizzo Junior "Raziel" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: King of the Hill: Complete Season 5 (DVD)
It is very diappointing to know that this series isn't well known all over the world as much as that other family, you know, the yellow skinned family, with the naught boy whose name starts with B and finishes with a T, and his father who loves dougnuts and says D'Oh!! all the time.

Now i live in europe, so i don't know much about American Culture, but after seeing five seasons of King of the Hill, i must admit that i have come to know more about America and i have huge interest in America and how the americans live and what they belive and stand for. Thank god that they are finally releasing this series in Uk. Maybe it will finally get the attention and huge praise it deserves.

I noticed that the animation has improved slightly from the past seasons, and that certain continuity lines are still carried on, like for example's Nancy and John Redcorn's break up, with John Redcorn trying to tell Dale and Joseph about the truth of Joseph's real biological father, or Hank's father, Cotton, and his new baby son.

I really love this series, but the reason why i am not giving this dvd a five star is because there are certain episodes which seem to be the same like others from previous seasons, for example Bobby wanting to do something which his father doesnt approve of and end up agreeing with each other, or Peggy doing something shamefull and trying to make up with hank etc etc. There are some original stories but it seems some stories have already been told.

For fans of this series i highly recommend this dvd, and for new comers i suggest you start with the fisrt season. i am sure that you will agree with me that they are better than that other animated family.!

What can I say I love this show. It is one of my favorites. This season is just as if not better than the first 4. I love that you can buy these shows on dvd because one day if I ever get married and have some kids I will be able to show them the shows I used to watch as a teen well actually I am 21 so I guess technically im an adult. But I don't have to act like one!
