5.0 out of 5 stars Providing back cover blurb, Mar 22 2006
By A Customer
This review is from: Kingdom Of Gold (Paperback)
From the back cover:

New World riches...Old World greed...

Less than a century after Columbus made his great discovery, Spain rules the seas. Tiny England, under her indomitable queen, seeks to challenge that mastery. Daredevil pirates like Sir Francis Drake, and Evan Carew harry the heavily-laden Spanish treasure ships.

The pirates do not expect to encounter Annie Blythe, spirited daughter of an Englishman and a Spanish noblewoman, or Casilda the Cimaroon, whose hatred for the Spanish knows no bounds.

Battle, intrigues, heroism, treachery--and a love that transcends all loyalties--fill the pages of KINGDOM OF GOLD.

3.0 out of 5 stars interesting idea but ultimately flawed, April 25 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Kingdom Of Gold (Paperback)
Wiggs starts out with interesting characters, times and events then...tries to pack in to much by the end. Too large a time frame and too many events. There just wasn't enough room for it all. Plus, it descends into melodrama during the last third.

4.0 out of 5 stars A swashbuckling adventure, Oct 29 2002
By Kelly (Fantasy Literature) - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Kingdom Of Gold (Paperback)
I'm picky about romance novels, and this is the kind I like. It has all the right stuff--a sweeping, decades-spanning story of love lost and regained, cameos by historical figures, a compassionate hero, and a feisty heroine. It's the tale of Evan Carew, a fictional compatriot of the very real Francis Drake. Evan loses his first love to Spanish tyranny and finds happiness again with a courageous tomboy who carries a secret drop of royal blood. Fate and political machinations tear them apart---what will happen when they meet again?

The only gripe I have about this book is that I wanted more! This is a long story, and parts of it seemed a little rushed,.
