It is not necessary to know the history of the monarchy of ancient Israel to enjoy this clever adaption of the story of Saul and David. However, familiarity with the scriptural stories enhances the enjoyment of Kings. Highly recommended. A sad loss that the series did not continue after season 1.

A pleasure to see Ian McShane back in another great series. He is one of a kind. Unfortunately Kings only lasted one season, but oh what a season it was!

This isn't my regular type of movie, this is a drama that is a modern take on King David, before he was the King of Legend and History. This was a very well put together series that I would have liked to take off. It was fun to watch the comparisons that the writers made to the Biblical version of events. Although Christians may disagree with this because they don't like the idea of it, I thought that it took David and made him as real as you and me and gave him a place in modern history. Growing up with stories of David and his feats, I came to see that this is the character of the real David, not perfect, but fallible like the rest of us. This was, in my opinion, a perfect rendition and couldn't have been done better.
