2.0 out of 5 stars You don't need this book!, Mar 9 2002

If you are savvy enough to consider reading this book, then you don't really need it, especially if you are an intelligent feminist woman! The entire book is nothing but Gilman's whiny opinions, and believe you me, I already have my own on all the issues she presents (politics, careers, shopping, PMS, dieting, marriage, etc.). Gilman actually suggests that women should eat more ice cream as a show of solidarity to our sisters, the cows! Where did she get that from? I usually like reading feminist memoirs and well-researched books about pop culture, but this one did not work for me. Instead of Tiara, I highly recommend trying The Bust Guide to the New Girl Order.

4.0 out of 5 stars girl power?, Jan 16 2010

Read this recently after enjoying Gilman's more recent autobiographical story, Hypocrite in a Pouffy White Dress. Kiss My Tiara preaches to the choir, for sure. You'll either love it or hate it, as seen by the widely varying reviews below. I didn't find it at all offensive, so I guess I'm in the choir.

4 stars, only because, compared to Hypocrite, Tiara doesn't go quite far enough. Gilman pulls a lot of her punches in Tiara, softening the "message" to a certain extent, and making it more of a "feel good" book than Hypocrite. A bit slim & fluffy in places, and could be chucked on the "chick lit" pile. Good casual reading, but not life changing.

The author grabs your attention in the very firsts sentences. Not only is she realistic, but her humour makes the book come alive. It's as if you were havinga conversation with someone you'v e known forever!
