I didn't feel the connection.,

The storyline was not up to Eloisa James usual standards. It's story line was a bit silly and things just happened out of the blue to tidy up loose ends. There was no true build up that made everything fall nicely into place. For instance all of a sudden her Godmother whom she has never seen since she was a baby recognized her when she is staying at the same castle. The Prince's problem with his betrothed and money were neatly tidied away in a paragraph. There was lots of silly conversations that didn't have much to do with the main story line plot. I was mostly disappointed though because I didn't feel the heat or connection of their romance. The main characters said and did the right things to show that they were in love, but because the beginning of their romance wasn't believable from the start it didn't really matter if they connected throughout the rest of the book. Their first encounter was of dislike and the build up from that to infatuation came too fast and came out of nowhere.It felt like a book that had really great ideas and direction but got tired and didn't bother to develop itself enough.

I am very partial to Eloisa James' books. They are well written and good fun, and A Kiss at Midnight is no exception. The whole point of the story is to suspend belief and simply enjoy the author's gift of a fairy tale for grownups. Personally, I paid little attention to the references to Virgil's Aeneid, or to the unhappy status of illegitimate children in Regency times, but they will be there for me to think about when I read the book a second time.

This is the 2nd book i've read by Eloisa James and i don't think i'll buy another of her books, EVER!!!. She has "decent" ideas but can't really develop them. I agree with the other review about this book having a stupid plot and things happening out of the blue. I can't really see how the characters fall in love with each other...it just suddenly happened. It's not like they got to spend lots of time together or interacted a lot to get to know each other. A few words here and there and then *BOOM* they were desperately in love. It didn't make sense and the plot was very shallow.
