Great family movie,

A movie the whole family can watch together. Manages to give a decent portrayal of the Depression and its effect on Kit's family, friends, and neighbours. Costumes are excellent, and mannerisms & attitudes are all realistic (if a bit stereotypical). There isn't a great deal of character development - although Kit learns that even well-to-do families like hers can be affected by the Depression, it doesn't bring about a huge transformation in her character. She was already a decent, thoughtful kid prior to her family being negatively affected by the Depression; if she had been a spoiled, arrogant girl instead, we'd have seen her character change and grow.But that's just a minor flaw in a movie that is otherwise solid and entertaining, and besides, these types of movies aren't really about character growth & development - they're intended to be family-friendly entertainment.

As with all of the American Girls videos, this one has been watched over and over. The girls in my family love getting the feel of history from movies such as this.
