About the Author

Anthony Bourdain is the executive chef at Brasserie Les Halles in New York City. He is also the author of two novels GONE BAMBOO and BONE IN THE THROAT to be published by Cannongate in March 2000. I waited a long time to get my hand on this book! The story itself, to me was not that shocking or a big revelation as I worked in the food industry for a while, but I came to the conclusion that what made it such a big hit is just that so many people could relate to it. An easy, entertaining and interesting read. It did not however have me reflecting on much, I was entertained reading it, then shut the cover and moved on. I also suggest reading "Waiter's Rant" by Steve Dublanica.

Start to finish, I couldn't put it down. This guy is just an awesome writer and tells his story in such a frank manner, I loved it.

If you like his tv show's, you will like The book. Wrote similar to how he talks on tv. it was an Entertaining read.

This book is a waste of time and money and I am surely glad I did not pay anything for it. It is Bourdain's homage to Bourdain's outrageous ego. The level of writing ability can best be described as sophomoric. There are long, convoluted passages that ramble and don't seem to be making any point. At least Bourdain is honest about his history of drug addiction and his bad behavior. (I do wonder why he feels compelled to crucify some of his fellows in the food industry for less egregious bad behavior than his.) His snobbery seems not to be justified.

I will tell you the two tidbits of valuable information in the book so that you do not have to spend anything to get them. Never buy seafood while dining out on Monday. Tuesday and Thursday are good times to dine out. Now you do not need to punish your sensibilities reading his ramblings and suffer through his crude language.
