I am a professional cook and here is my take on why this kettle is the only one on the market worth considering if your a baker.
There are many automatic kettles in the $100 range from Breville, Cuisinart, Kitchenaid, etc... The one advantage this kettle has over all others is the ability to do 122'F water whereas all others are in the 170'F+ range. This is the perfect temperature for yeast when making breads. If you're a baker this is fantastic. No more trying to get the right temperature with a thermometer. Set it and forget it.

So far I love the kettle. I've verified the temperatures with a calibrated thermometer and they are accurate. I've only had the kettle for about a month, so the long term durability has not been tested. I use the kettle daily, sometimes 4 or more times per day. I've made breads with it and fell in love with the 122'F feature.

If you're worried about quality, Kitchenaid has a pro line kettle that is around $175 or so.

5 stars for initial quality, and will be downgraded if after a year the kettle hasn't held up.

Yes! it beeps a lot, but it works well. I have had this for about a month now and it performs really well. The ability to control the temp as well as having a large viewing window is very useful. The design is not the most appealing at first glance, but it grows on you.

i would recommend it!

I am very pleased with this kettle. It works very well and the glossy white enamel finish does not show fingerprints. The only caveat is the inside of the handle. I've been using the kettle for four months and the black rubber coating is starting to wear away in one spot.

Beeping when activated is very loud, almost obnoxious. Compared with my previous variable temperature kettle (Breville) there is a lot less functionality on this machine. Temperature options are 100, 90, 80 degrees - where previous machine had much finer increments.

Two months after I bought this kettle, the paint on the handle started to peel. I believe it has been made poorly. Although I love the design, I do not think this is acceptable for a kettle that is in the highest price range.

Just got It as a desired Christmas gift! Though it would be a great improvement from my old Electric Kettle from Oyster! Wrong!!!! For the double of the price, I just got the most annoying beeping on earth! The kettle beep for everything and there is no turn off! Secondly, you can only increase by 10 degree, wtf is wrong with Kitchenaid? They don't know tea at all. The Oyster can increase by 5 degree. One way to obtain 5 degree is to wait and stop the kettle at the desired temperature...
For 50 buck, get the Oyster, it last me 2 years and wasn't so annoying.

This is a great sized kettle to heat water in. It heats very quickly (I like being able to watch the temperature reading increase) and the "Hold Temp" function works great, keeping the temperature within a few degrees of what you selected for up to 30 minutes. I wish that the temperature choice could be more precise, it jumps by 10 degree increments, starting at 50C, up to 100C but with some timing you can grab the kettle at any degree lower than what you've set it to.

I like the visual design of it, It has an interesting retro-future aesthetic with it's sharp angled handle and canister shaped body, all in stainless steel and black. It could be off the set of a cheesy 60's sci-fi movie about Alien Housewives.

As another reviewer stated though, the number of times it beeps is a little excessive. It's not terribly loud or intrusive but it sounds like a garbage truck backing up about half a block away.

The kettle (this is the second one, the first one died after a few days) works well. My only reason for giving it 4 instead of 5 starts - I would like it more if there was more granularity in the temperature selection. It's a bit more expensive than single-setting ones, but worth it - my wife drinks tea and likes the ability to set how hot the water gets.
