Look, this is a very pretty kettle. Whoever did the physical design of the kettle was on point.

I have the red one. It's a really nice red. You put the kettle on your counter, and suddenly your kitchen looks like it's out of a catalogue. No joke, this is a fine looking appliance. You can see where the water level is really easily, the handle feels good in the hand, and the spout doesn't slop water all over the place. It pours where you want it to pour. Maybe it should go without saying, but hey, I think we've all had cheap kettles before.

It beeps a lot. Other people have mentioned this, and I didn't believe them. You'll probably dismiss this part of my review as well, but seriously, it beeps. A lot. All the time. Loudly. Whoever designed this part of the kettle was bad at their job. Perhaps it was a student. The beep is a harsh, grating noise. I've come up with little tricks to make it beep less, like pressing the temperature selector at the same time I put the kettle in its base, because the temperature select sound is shorter. I also hover near the kettle when I'm paying attention so I can pull it off the base just before it finishes and beeps THREE TIMES to let me know that the water is done.

Does it heat water? It sure does! It makes quick work of getting to 100C.

But it sort of breaks down from here.

The kettle is a single-wall design. It retains heat not at all. Miss the kettle finishing by a few minutes and you may as well start it again--the water won't be the temperature you were aiming for. In fact, it's a bit questionable that it hits the temperature you were aiming for on the first try at all.

See, the kettle has this feature that you can put 2AA batteries in it so you can check the temperature whenever you want.

I am a professional cook and here is my take on why this kettle is the only one on the market worth considering if your a baker.
There are many automatic kettles in the $100 range from Breville, Cuisinart, Kitchenaid, etc... The one advantage this kettle has over all others is the ability to do 122'F water whereas all others are in the 170'F+ range. This is the perfect temperature for yeast when making breads. If you're a baker this is fantastic. No more trying to get the right temperature with a thermometer. Set it and forget it.

So far I love the kettle. I've verified the temperatures with a calibrated thermometer and they are accurate. I've only had the kettle for about a month, so the long term durability has not been tested. I use the kettle daily, sometimes 4 or more times per day. I've made breads with it and fell in love with the 122'F feature.

If you're worried about quality, Kitchenaid has a pro line kettle that is around $175 or so.

5 stars for initial quality, and will be downgraded if after a year the kettle hasn't held up.

Yes! it beeps a lot, but it works well. I have had this for about a month now and it performs really well. The ability to control the temp as well as having a large viewing window is very useful. The design is not the most appealing at first glance, but it grows on you.

i would recommend it!

I am very pleased with this kettle. It works very well and the glossy white enamel finish does not show fingerprints. The only caveat is the inside of the handle. I've been using the kettle for four months and the black rubber coating is starting to wear away in one spot.

Beeping when activated is very loud, almost obnoxious. Compared with my previous variable temperature kettle (Breville) there is a lot less functionality on this machine. Temperature options are 100, 90, 80 degrees - where previous machine had much finer increments.

The only thing I don't like is how hot the outside gets when the water has boiled!!! You really can not touch the kettle on the sides. Love the beeps though, because I always forget I am boiling water. Now I get reminded.

Two months after I bought this kettle, the paint on the handle started to peel. I believe it has been made poorly. Although I love the design, I do not think this is acceptable for a kettle that is in the highest price range.

variable temp works well for tea drinkers, nice style and solid, the only negative would be the constant beeping. When it is early morning or late at night, and the household is sleeping, this kettle beeps when turned on, beeps 3x when it is done, beeps when it is returned to the base. All good when household is busy, just a little annoying in the middle of the night! Minor issue though, the kettle works wonderfully well, and is pretty quick to heat water. Tells you starting temp of water too.
