Robust Motor

Rugged 0.9-horsepower motor supplies the power for superb performance with all blending tasks--from pureeing sauces to making chunky salsas or uniformly crushing a pitcher of ice or frozen fruit within seconds for silky smoothies.

Easy-Clean One-Piece Pitcher Design

The clear pitcher is shatter resistant, scratch resistant, and stain resistant. The pitcher handle features a soft inner grip for firm, comfortable, no-slip control. The one-piece design integrates a functional pitcher with dynamic interior contours that continually directs food into the blade for fast, thorough blending. The one-piece design also means cleaning is achieved without removing the blade and other parts. Even more, the pitcher stands up to extreme temperatures--from boiling soups to frozen margaritas, and it has a wide pour spout to ensure smooth pouring. The pitcher is dishwasher-safe.

Patented Stainless-Steel Blade

Sharp oversized blade tines are positioned on four different planes for fast, thorough, and consistent blending. KitchenAid's durable blade design is built into the pitcher for easy handling and cleaning.

Intelli-Speed Motor Control

Exclusive Intelli-Speed control automatically works to keep speed constant--even through density changes when ingredients are added. This advanced KitchenAid design maintains an optimal blending speed for each culinary task and control-pad setting.

Speed Selection Buttons

Create frozen drinks and puree sauces or soups in seconds. Blend with confidence, control, and consistency at all speed settings: Stir, Chop, Mix, Puree, and Liquefy. The Pulse mode works with all five speeds. The Crush Ice mode is designed specifically for crushing ice and will automatically pulse at staggered intervals for optimal results.

Soft Start Feature

The blender motor starts at a slower speed to pull food into the blade then quickly increases to the selected speed setting. This design feature reduces start-up kick and allows hands-free operation.

Clean Touch Control Pad

Wipes clean in an instant. Smooth control pad has no crevices or cracks to trap ingredients.

Durable Steel-Reinforced Couplers

Commercial-quality couplers with 12 interlocking teeth provide direct transfer of motor power to the blade. Pitcher coupler is coated for quiet operation.

Stay-Put Lid with Clear 2-Ounce (60 mL) Ingredient Cap

The flexible lid will maintain its tight seal throughout the life of the blender. The lid includes a removable 2-ounce (60 mL) cap for convenience in measuring and adding ingredients.

Die-Cast Metal Base

The blender's heavy, die-cast metal base ensures stable, quiet operation when blending a full pitcher of ingredients. Four rubber feet on the wide, solid base provide a no-slip, nonmarring grip. Smooth and rounded, the base is easy to clean and features tidy cord storage underneath.

    5.0 out of 5 stars I did research May 7 2010

I went on a website that compared KitchenAid along with 4 other makes - 2 moderately priced ones and 2 higher-end commercial types. The test was whether the machines could liquify a whole apple or a whole orange with the rind on and some liquid. The KitchenAid came out on top without having to use a plunger of sorts and this item was also sold with the higher-end blenders. Hmmm. I decided to upgrade to the KitchenAid model even though my old blender was still functioning when I saw it on sale for just little over $100. You will also like how much quieter this blender is compared to others. I use it regularly and I can honestly say that I love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Choice April 10 2010

This blender is very powerful. Crushes Ice into snow, leaves no pieces of frozen fruit in smoothies. If your thinking about spending over $500 on a Blendtec or Vitamix, try the Kitchen Aid blender first. Plus, the clean up on this blender is SO easy. There are no parts to take apart, you just fill 1/3 of the pitcher with water, add a drop of dishwashing liquid, and set it to the "stir" speed, then rinse. Very easy. Also, I was a bit aprehensive buying a blender that did not have a glass pitcher, but the Polycarbonate jar is excellent, lightweight but very durable.

You get a 1yr hassle free warranty. All in all, great buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars No drawbacks yet! Oct 21 2011

Previous to purchasing this blender we had an Osterizer, which cost $49 and did the tasks we asked of it. However, it always let us know that it was doing us a favor by working. Then one day, it stopped working.

We had always talked about getting an industrial blender, such as a Vitamix TurboBlend VS Blender Vita-Mix (Tax Incl.), but felt the price-benefit ratio may not meet our criteria. While perusing small appliances at a department store, I became acquainted with the KitchenAid. This blender makes a good first impression. It feels like a small tank, similar to that of other trustworthy KitchenAid appliances I have grown to trust (proud owners of the classic KitchenAid mixer, and a rugged KitchenAid food processor). However, the department store price was nearing the top end of everyday consumer blenders at $229. After returning home, I did the typical consumer research for the KitchenAid over the internet (how much does it cost elsewhere, how product owners/testers reviewed it). I was shocked to find that amazon had the identical blender on sale for $90! But I couldn't make a rash purchase, purchase decisions often boil down to reading reviews. People complained about having trouble with the seal where the blade meets the jug. Others thought it was too noisy, and the lid didn't make a proper seal. Despite these minor flaws, we ordered it.

I effing love this blender. It may be a little loud, but this blender performs. It makes silky smoothies, and perfectly pureed soups. As opposed to the Osterizer, this blender feels like a tool that is ready and willing to perform anything you ask of it.

Operates fairly quietly and will crush ice. Large capacity is great, too. It matches up with other appliances that are on my counter.
