KitchenAid 580 Custom Metallic Series 5-Speed Blender with 56-Ounce Pitcher

Speed Selection Buttons

Create frozen drinks and puree sauces or soups in seconds. Blend with confidence, control, and consistency at all speed settings: Stir, Chop, Mix, Puree, and Liquefy. The Pulse mode works with all five speeds. The Crush Ice feature is designed specifically for crushing ice and will automatically pulse at staggered intervals for optimal results.

Easy Clean, One-Piece Pitcher Design

The blender's 56-ounce-capacity (1.75 L), clear pitcher is shatter resistant, scratch resistant, and stain resistant. The pitcher handle features a soft inner grip for firm, comfortable, no-slip control. Even more, its one-piece design integrates a functional pitcher with dynamic interior contours that continually directs food into the blade for fast, thorough blending. The one-piece design also means cleaning is achieved without removing the blade and other parts. The durable pitcher stands up to extreme temperatures--from boiling soups to frozen margaritas and has a wide pour spout to ensure smooth pouring. The pitcher is dishwasher-safe.

Stay-Put Lid with Clear 2-Ounce (60 ml) Ingredient Cup

The flexible lid will maintain its tight seal throughout the life of the blender. The lid incorporates a removable 2-ounce (60 ml) cup for convenience in measuring and adding ingredients.

Intelli-Speed Motor Control

Exclusive Intelli-Speed control automatically works to keep speed constant--even through density changes when ingredients are added. This advanced KitchenAid design maintains an optimal blending speed for each culinary task and control-pad setting.

Soft Start Blending Feature

The blender starts at a slower speed to pull ingredients into the blade then quickly increases to selected speed setting. This design feature reduces start-up kick and allows hands-free operation.

Clean Touch Control Pad

The blender wipes clean in an instant. The unit's smooth control pad has no crevices or cracks to trap ingredients.

Die-Cast Metal Base

The blender's heavy, die-cast metal base ensures stable, quiet operation when blending a full pitcher of ingredients. Four rubber feet on a wide, solid base provide a no-slip, non-marring grip. Smooth and rounded, the base cleans easily and features cord storage underneath.

Robust Motor

Thanks to its rugged 0.9-horsepower motor, the blender supplies the power needed for superb performance with all blending tasks--from pureeing sauces to making chunky salsas, or uniformly crushing a pitcher of ice or frozen fruit within seconds for silky smoothies.

Patented Stainless-Steel Blade

Sharp oversized blade tines are positioned on four different planes for fast, thorough, and consistent blending. KitchenAid's durable blade design is built into the pitcher for easy handling and cleaning.

Durable Steel-Reinforced Coupler

Commercial-quality coupler with 12 interlocking teeth that provide direct transfer of motor power to the blades. Pitcher coupler is coated for quiet operation.

    1.0 out of 5 stars Maybe I just got a lemon April 9 2011
I really like Kitchen Aid, I have a number of appliances and have always treasured my mixer. But this product is a real dog, or at least the one I got is. First, the jar leaked when I made a smoothie, so I took it back and replaced the jar. Then it just never really worked. I had to thaw all the fruit before I could make a smoothie (yes, I just use it for smoothies). Then it started travelling across the counter so I had to hold it with two hands. One day I was holding it down when the whole jar popped off! Yes, smoothie everywhere, but it also broke off the little plastic things that make it turn. And it leaks worse than ever. I threw it out in the trash. Good luck with yours.

1.0 out of 5 stars Kitchenaid Blender Jan 31 2013
    By Nita
Bought this blender through airmiles a few years ago. It worked great crushes ice like nothing. This is my primary tool for smoothies for my family and it started to leak so we tightened things up, lasted a couple times but of course smoothy leaking all over. Now can't fix it and called Kitchenaid and they say i have to buy the entire jar and pay for shipping ect. Very frustrated will not purchase anything Kitchenaid ever again. Very dissappointed in quality and customer service. Was recently thinking of purchasing Kitchenaid appliances for our new house, now sorry to say will not be getting anything Kitchenaid, Whirlpool, Jennair ect.

1.0 out of 5 stars The Leak Problem July 21 2007
    By D. Wooten - Published on Amazon.com
    UPDATED AT BOTTOM!

I have owned a lot of blenders and this one is very impressive. I was tempted to give it 4 stars as it is not the best blender I have ever owned. That distinction goes to the Vita-Mix which has a nuclear reactor for a base, sounds like a Harley and cost as much as a microwave but if you need a blender that can crush anything and make flour and HOT soup....well....but back to the KitchenAid. My spouse could not get over the price though and demanded it be returned.

The KA looks great. As a home chef, having a sleek modern looking kitchen is important. Second it is easy to clean... I will never own a push button (i.e. old Oster-type) blender again. Nor one with a multi piece jar. One leak can and has ruined an evening or party, as you run to grab paper towel and dish clothes to control the margarita or soup that is running across your counter and down your cabinets. Then the fun of cleaning your blender nooks begin....grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Now the really impressive part. I have owned a Waring for years. Everyone always raves about it and if you have a thin liquid, it works great. But for crushing ice and making smoothies, it just flat out sucks. So I sought out an ice crushing (margaritas), sealed jar (gravies/soups), lightweight, large capacity (parties), easy touch (easy to clean), piece of art. The KitchenAid is all those things and has a logic built in that controls the blade speed. It knows how well it is crushing the ice and modulates the motor to ensure an even snow like texture that is incredible. The same system is also built into the other modes, measuring resistance to step the motor up, then back it down to ensure smooth results.

This is my first KitchenAid product, but it will not be my last. BRAVO

    <<<<UPDATE>>>>

As many who have used this blender over time have noted... THIS BLENDER is DEFECTIVE. The design is flawed causing the blender to leak. The bigger issue though is KitchenAid's failure to make the owners whole by replacing the units in a recall. Customer service refuses to do so, therefore this is my last KitchenAid blender.

Bought a VitaMix to replace it. You apparently get what you pay for.

    5.0 out of 5 stars Top-Notch Blender Mar 11 2008

This is an excellent, high-quality blender. We replaced an inexpensive Oster with it and like this KitchenAid much, much more. Things I really like:

    1) Power - this blender whips through hard-frozen fruit like nothing is there for wonderful smoothies.
    2) Smooth, one piece control panel - makes for super-easy clean-up as there are no cracks or crevices to trap spills. Yet, the buttons behind the panel still have a nice tactile click response so you know you pressed one.
    3) Brushed nickel finish - very attractive on your counter.
    4) Polycarbonate jar - this worried me when considering this purchase as our old blender had a nice, thick glass jar. But, after using this blender for 3 months, I like this jar better. It is thick, yet lightweight, and hasn't scratched (although I only use rubber or silicone spatulas inside any way).
    5) One piece blades & jar - our old blender had a screw-off base, resulting in 4 parts for clean-up - the base, the blade assembly, the jar itself & a rubber gasket. This blender's blades are permanently mounted in the bottom of the jar making for easy clean-up. I either just put it in the dishwasher on the bottom shelf, or I rinse it out, fill it up halfway with warm water & a small squirt of dishwasher detergent and run it on medium for 10 seconds or so.

Unlike another reviewer, I have experienced no leaks. There is a hex hut on the bottom of the jar that holds in the blade assembly & I am sure there is a rubber gasket underneath the nut. If I ever do get a leak, I plan trying to slightly tighten this nut with an adjustable wrench - I imagine it could possibly loosen over time due to vibration.

The bottom line is that while there are certainly many less expensive blenders on the market, this is an extremely powerful, well-built & attractive option. I think it is worth the price (I had a $20 rebate to lessen the sting), but others may not depending on their budget.

UPDATE after a summer of making daiquiris & margaritas - This blender makes FANTASTIC frozen drinks. It really pulverizes the ice & frozen fruit to make a killer frozen cocktail!

1.0 out of 5 stars Great blender, for a few months ONLY... Mar 11 2009
By Matt Drostdy - Published on Amazon.com
We registered for this blender loving it's small footprint and clean looks. Perfectly happy with having a plastic (polycarbonate) jar, since it's lighter, and offers 1-piece simplicity (stick it in the dishwasher, pull it out, done).

BUT, and this is a big but: the jar doesn't last. Our first one went after a few months of use (1-2 times a week ONLY). Even though it has an ice-crush button on it, I started pre-crushing the ice with our ice maker when we purchased our replacement jar (at $50!). The second jar didn't seem to take any longer to start cracking. The cracks seem to start around the handle, and work their way up and down. Slowly, but surely, the jar begins to leak onto your blender and the counter. And, of course, it's sticky and nasty, and annoying. I just ordered my 3rd jar and I'm grumpy about it. Another $50 to KitchenAid, in support of this failure of a product. I wish the glass jars would fit it, but sadly they don't. Your only choice is to replace with another doomed jar, or order a new blender... which I guess I'll have to do next time.

The jar is simply not going to last, even under moderate to light usage.

AVOID THIS BLENDER, and possibly any blender with a poly jar.
