Product Description

In print for more than 50 years, KRAUSE'S FOOD & NUTRITION THERAPY has been recognized internationally as the most authoritative text on nutrition. This new edition continues its tradition of providing the most comprehensive and up-to-date content available today. New chapters on medical nutrition therapy for psychiatric disease and developmental disorders spotlight the advances made in these areas. Extensive appendices, tables, illustrations, figures, and clinical insight boxes give practical hands-on procedures and clinical tools with the most current information, including brand-new guidelines on food intake and physical activity, and highlight the inclusion of the new food guide pyramid, MyPyramid, to use in everyday practice.

2.0 out of 5 stars Many chapters poorly written; many technical inaccuracies, Oct 26 2008
By NutritionDoc - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Krause's Food & Nutrition Therapy (Hardcover)
To be honest, this text doesn't deserve any stars in the rating. Hoping for the quality text that I purchased years ago, I updated my library with this edition. I could not be more disappointed with the writing, the incorrect terminology (the term is ptyalism, not ptylinism - pg 182; the word is 'prostate' not prostrate; and no, osteopenia is not a disease), the variety of definitions for the same term at the beginning of several chapters, many of the charts, and the review of drugs during pregnancy and lactation -- just to name a few. I cannot recommend this text.

5.0 out of 5 stars The "Gold Standard" among nutrition texts...., Jun 6 2010

Krause's Food & Nutrition Therapy

"I very seldom post reviews for products but I will make an exception here. I bought my first edition of Krause's Food and Nutrition Therapy while attending Penn State University in the early 80's and have updated a couple of times since. Nutrition has become highly specialized and it is next to imposible for any one person to be an expert in all aspects of nutrition therapy. Over the years, I have referred to this text more times than I can count because it is considered "the gold standard" among nutrition texts. I can't imagine a dietitian not having Krause's Food and Nutrition Therapy on her/his shelf."

2.0 out of 5 stars Not a good textbook, Jan 3 2012

I am a human nutrition major at Ohio State University and I have taken plenty of nutrition courses-obviously; however, I have had way better textbooks. This is a very dull text. The setup is awful. For the most part, since I majored in science I tend to keep my science textbooks, even though they might be outdated in the future I like to reflect on them from time to time. But this textbook is bad, bad, bad. I tried to open it and give it a try. After the first few weeks of using it, I could not stand it. I was just too boring; not to mention there are numerous errors, which can hurt you, depending on the class and the material you need. Overall, I say if you are a nutrition or science major, there are plenty of better books out. Not worth it. I only gave it a two star because it is still my major and I feel that although the book is set up badly, the author had to try-at one point. Good luck.
