This rare volume is a magnum opus of the the work of an exceptional commercially-oriented artist. Syd Mead is an aesthetic visionary genius in the truest sense of the word. He has served as consultant to the design teams of automotive and electronics companies worldwide. He painted the image used for the very first "Star Wars" theater posters. He was the conceptual artist and set/production designer for "Blade Runner" and many other top science fiction movies. His illustrations of futuristic societies have inspired the creative imaginations of multitudes of authors, artists, writers and film-makers.
Kronoteko is an all-encompassing review of the very best of Mr. Mead's career. It is not to be missed by those who wish to remain on the forward edge of illustration concepts, nor by those who are conscious of the most influential of 20th century ID. The illustrations (which are, of course, the soul of the book) are exquisitely detailed examples of Mead's high-contrast compositions and his richly-saturated palette.
The only complaint, a minor one, is the slick color cover. It is a hard-back book, but the cover does not convey the durability or gravitas an artist of Mead's stature deserves. Better to have been cloth-bound with a heavyweight paper color dust cover.
This book is a necessary addition to all ID and commercial art libraries. Until a more perfectly bound volume is available, this is really the essential Syd Mead to own.
