My dog has black nails so it may happen at times (not often) that I cut one too short. This will stop the bleeding almost instanly...I recommend it.

Kwik-Stop works Oct. 19 2009

My dog's nails are solid black and I occasionally misjudge when cutting them. I tried a gel variety but found it messy to use. With this you can put a little in the cap and if you nick the nail's quick you just press the nail end into the powder and it stops the bleeding right away.

Effective and quick Dec 29 2009

No pun intended but this works quick. I rarely clip into the quick but this is the best product to stop the bleeding when I do. Flour and/or corn starch will work in a pinch but this is best.

Must have for at home nail trims Sept. 14 2010
A Kid's Review - Published on Amazon.com
Their nails can bleed quite a bit if you cut too far. My dog has black nails so you can't see the vein inside. When she came to us (a rescue) her nails were neglected. I cut them just a bit every two weeks so the vein could recede, as our vet directed, until they were the right length. Even so, I get a bleeder every once in a while and the powder stops it immediately and permanently. Even the time my dog licked it off (I was distracted by someone at the door). I have used this for years and you simply must have it.
PS I'm an adult BTW.

Works on Humans, too! Nov. 28 2011

I decided to purchase a jar of this along with a nice set of clippers to start trimming our Lab's nails at home. I'd had it for two days when--on Thanksgiving Day--I sliced off a nice chunk of my thumb and thumbnail with a vegetable peeler. OUCH!!! It was bleeding profusely and my husband asked, "you want to try some of that powder?" Darn right I did! It worked immediately. Stung like ten fires, but it stopped the bleeding, and the wound clotted to a scab very quickly. It's been four days now, no infection, and my little nub is healing nicely! Hopefully, I will never have to use this stuff again...but it will always be in my medicine cabinet!

Works very well July 30 2012

I have a miniature pinscher who is very dramatic and does not like getting his nails clipped. I decided to buy some clippers on Amazon to try to clip his nails myself instead of paying to get it done every month, so I bought some kwik-stop as well...just in case. The problem I have is my dog likes to jerk his paws out of my hand right when Im about to clip his nails. I am happy to say that out of the many times I have managed to get in a clipped nail or two, I have only clipped too short one time. I immediately grabbed this product, wet a q-tip, dipped it in, and held it to the tip of my dog's nail that was bleeding a little. The bleeding stopped in a matter of seconds and my dog seemed to forget about the incident almost immediately and was back out the door chasing squirrels again. Based on that one time performance and how quickly it stopped the bleeding I would say this is an excellent product and I would recommend it to anyone who clips their animal's nails themselves...just in case.
