Product Description

Book Description

"I am both spectator and participant, objective and subjective... I am celebrating and questioning what I have known and that includes the achievements and embarrassments, the loves, the lessons, the reality and the possibility." - Kylie Minogue Kylie is a vivid self-portrait of Kylie Minogue's many different personas, both public and private, as pop singer, actress, media focus, and mass cultural icon. Moving beyond autobiography, Kylie examines her iconic status, from early Neighbors appearances to gigantic music hits, and sheds light on its peculiar organic momentum. With an essay by renowned music journalist Chris Heath developed through conversations with Kylie, and with written and visual contributions from artists, photographers, musicians and designers, the book is both a celebration and an examination of this complex and well-loved figure. Contributors include, among others, Irvine Welsh, Pierre et Gilles, Wolfgang Tillmans, Sam Taylor Wood, Vivienne Westwood, Nick Cave and Ellen von Unwerth. Designed by Farrow Design. "[Kylie is] cool enough to embrace the freakier manifestations of her iconic status with ease."

- Irvine Welsh "Simply she is divine - and multi-talented." - Elton John Embossed Hardback with slipcase; 10 x 15", 200 full color images

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Design, Great Pictures of an International Icon, Jan 1 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Kylie (Hardcover)
When I was 7, I was entranced by the beautiful lady on my TV Screen singing 'The Locomotion'. What happened to her from that point to when I first heard 'Can't Get You Out of My Head' two summers ago was a mystery...until I bought this book. Since releasing 'Fever', I have become a big Kylie fan and bought this book to see what exactly has made her so famous in virtually every other country of the world.

Plain and simple, and detailed in this book as well as 'La La La' by William Baker, image had A LOT to do with it. Kylie is a very beautiful woman who is willing to become a blank canvas for her art, thus giving various facets to her pop persona. She is pop princess, avant-garde revivalist, indie paramour, cheesy, classy, showgirl and icon. This book displays pictures from all of these points, flattering and otherwise.

The design of this book is also great and I'm sure it will remain a collector's item for Kylie fans in the future.

3.0 out of 5 stars Kylie!!!!!, Mar 28 2002

I love Kylie and have been a fan since The Locomotion. I have always seen as the-girl-next-door-type, fun-loving, good girl. I like the cutesy photos in this book but some of the photos of a sexual nature i didnt like. But they are nowhere near as bad as what was in [other] Sex book. THANK GOODNESS!!!! I guess that's just the prude in me though. Overall, it's a fun book with some great photos of her and neat packaging too.
