LEGO Creator Aviation Adventures
- NOTE: This item requires one (1) additional business day for delivery
Blast off into Aviation Adventures with this three-in-one from LEGO Creators that allows you to build a propeller plane, a helicopter and a speedboat! Even James Bond never had a vehicle that cool! Have spectacular aerial dogfights with the propeller plan with its eight-cylinder engine, realistic propeller feathering, detailed engine compartment and undercarriage, moving wing flaps, and sliding hinged canopy. You can even make the propeller turn by moving the tail back and forth! When it's time for the helicopter, you get a modern attack chopper with spinning rotors, a hinged opening canopy and detailed cockpit. Same thing goes for the slick speedboat with its large rear fan and sweet modern style. The LEGO Creators Aviation Adventures set is recommended for ages 8-12 and consists of 618 pieces.

The design of the plane is simply amazing and when you are done putting it together you realize how clever the design engineering is (the rear cockpit slides to open, the propeller will move when you push the rear wheel). The best thing about the plane model is that it will also fit your LEGO mini figures, a feature not always seen in the creator line. Bottom line, buy this set sort the pieces and pick which model you are going to build (boat, helicopter or plane). once you get board with that one you can make the other model and then the next. Finally, forget the instructions and let your imagination take over. Some of the pieces in this set are pieces I have never seen before. Forget the themed sets, this is the set for pure LEGO fans.
I bought this because my son begged me for it for months. We created an "earn it" board for him (he's 5) and when he did chores, was nice to sister, ate veggies, etc., he earned points towards this plane. We got it yesterday...
It is worth every penny and more, whether you paid $50 or $75 for it. I cannot believe how many features they built into this thing; this is not a simple LEGO toy that just sits there and has you lose interest in 2 minutes. I will go into many of the features that LEGO's own ads (on Amazon, Toy's R Us, etc.") don't include. And I posted many pictures so you must, MUST check those out. It will truly blow you away.
Some fantastic features:
1. The rear wheel turns, therefore the plane itself turns if your kid(s) like to make believe on take off and landing
2. The engine cover swings open and there is something that looks like an engine inside
3. The engine denoted above, has actual gears that involve the propeller
4. By pushing the rear wheel forward and backward, the propeller moves!!
5. The cockpit opens out, and the rear cockpit window also slides back, as well as swings open
6. The ailerons actually swing up and down
7. Inside the cockpit, you can put a mini figure in, and the figure will lock in place
8. The wheels under the wing fold up into the wing, but not only that, there is a locking mechanism that holds the wheels in when locked up, as well as hold the wheels in place and they're down. UNREAL.
Now some more facts about the experience itself, that is building the plane, not the heli or boat:
Time to Build (Adult): If you are an adult and isolate yourself from distractions, about 2.5 - 4 hours
Time to Build (8-10 year old kid): 3 - 4 hours
Time to Build (6-8 year old kid): 5 - 7 hours or more
Time to Build (Rocket Scientist): 11 hours, because they'll evaluate every piece and subassembly along the way (HA!)
Level of Difficulty (Adult): Easy to Med
Level of Difficulty (8-10): Hard
Level of Difficulty (6-8): Very hard and will lose focus and attention numerous times (this has more than 600 pieces)
Parts of the plane that tend to fall off after the build: wing tips; yellow edges at ends of elevator; tail wheel; rear wing tail tip.
There are several pics with measurements, but also to show scale, I put this on top of my 12.9" laptop. This thing is pretty big, and pretty heavy.
This review is only on the primary build, which is the plane. We cannot wait to get to the speedboat and heli! THanks for reading!!
(a first of a kind since I started collecting).
It has many special features that make it fun to play with
(see various reviews on the internet for details).
It was challenging to build (no numbered bags), but NOT too difficult.
I would recommend it to children of ages specified on the box & adults.
