I absolutely love the TV, the picture is excellent and I haven't had any problems with it. However the smart features aren't particularly great - many of the apps are poorly programmed with awful UIs, and the web browser is quite clunky and frequently runs out of memory on pages with basic media (images, advertisements, etc.). For example, attempting to use the youtube app was a nightmare, and I ended up just browsing youtube through the built-in browser instead. The only App on the TV that I have actually seen work smoothly is Netflix, everything else will just give you a headache. In retrospect I probably should have just bought the non-smart version of this TV and hooked it up to my laptop whenever I want to use the internet on it.

If you don't have any other options for hooking your TV up to the internet, the Smart TV functionality might be worth it for you, but otherwise I would recommend saving some money and just getting the regular LG 47 inch TV.

* - For reference, I don't have any other smart TVs to compare this to so I can't tell if you if other TVs are better in this department or if this is a problem that plagues all smart TVs.

In spite of the text on the amazon website product description stating that the "Magic Remote" is included (see excerpt pasted below) -- IT IS NOT. This was one of the features I bought the TV for, so I'm really disappointed it wasn't included. I haven't used the TV yet, so I can't comment about the picture quality or other features, hence my overall neutral rating.

I was looking for a TV that would be big enough to fit in my room and able to connect to my pc. The 42 inches is the perfect size for my desk and I can comfortably play any game from my bed! The only thing that bummed me out when I got the TV was that there was no VGA connection on it. I had an older LG TV with one, so I assumed they all had it. I had also ordered a HDMI cord, but no image would show up on the screen. I eventually found out that it was because I had the HDMI connected to the slot on my motherboard, not my graphics card. I needed an HDMI mini for my graphics card, so I bought a new cord and as soon as I plugged it in, my desktop appeared on the TV. Games and mouse movements were also a little bit laggy at first, but as soon as I put the video settings of the TV to "gaming" mode, there was no more input lag. And with the "Scan" mode from the "Ratio" button on the remote, I was able to get my entire desktop to nicely fill the entire screen. Nothing was getting cut off after I did that. Another cool feature I found out, was that if my flatscreen was set to the main screen, and I turned it off, my pc screen was automatically switched to the main one. And then back again when I turned the TV on! Perfect for easily launching games on the flatscreen! My family has actually been using the TV more than me since I got it hooked up. They've been watching HD movies, Netflix, gaming... etc. They all love it! The Smart TV features were nice while I was waiting for my HDMI cord to arrive in the mail, but using WiFi to watch movies or shows is not something I would suggest. If you're not going to use this TV connected to a pc, then I would definitely suggest using the LAN hookup in the back of the TV.Read more ›

Very disappointed in so-called "Smart TV" features. After looking around the web, it appeared that LG has one of the better if not best Smart TV implementations out there... if that's actually true, then everyone should save themselves a lot of disappointment and get a regular TV and add a proper computer or a better set-top box.

First of all, I want to point out that this TV does NOT come with the highly touted Magic Remote. It comes with a big ol' regular remote that is a PAIN to use. If you get this TV and have a Smart phone, do yourself a favour and download the LG remote app... it's not perfect, but it's way better than the standard remote; if you don't have a Smart phone, or don't want to use it, simply plug in a USB mouse or USB wireless mouse to control the cursor (although you will still need the remote to get the Smart TV home screen).

The WiFi was able to connect, but if you have your router on the opposite side of the house, you may experience problems with streaming. My laptop seems to be better at grabbing WiFi the signal from across the house than this TV.

My wife and I intended to use this TV basically as a giant monitor for online content. We cut the cable long ago and have been watching tv online for a few years now. The marketing for this Smart TV made it seem like we could continue to do the same without having to hook up a TV, at least with wires. First of all, we tried Netflix. That worked fine. Then we tried the YouTube app. It looked very slick, but the interface was very clumsy. Picture quality was very nice on YouTube, but very pixelated on Netflix. (Maybe have to check out the settings to stream NF in HD?
