I recently stumbled upon Simone Kermes, the acclaimed "Queen of Baroque" (I agree wholeheartedly!)and am utterly enthralled by her pure tone, careful phrasing and precise voice control. There are some lesser known and better known arias here, the common thread being that they were all written for the Italian soprano Francesca Cuzzoni. I can't understand why this album hasn't been reviewed before now! I highly recommend this album to anyone who loves Handel arias; you cannot go wrong purchasing this album.I also highly recommend two other Kermes albums, 'Lava- Opera Arias from 18th Century Napoli' and 'Joseph Martin Kraus: La Primavera', both outstanding and not at all run of the mill material. You won't be disappointed with any of these three albums.

Beautifully restrained artistry that keeps much of its power in reserve. The relationship between orchestra and soloist is first rate. This wonderful soprano is new to me.The recording excellent with a natural accoustic that feels like a good 'room'. I shall look for more of her work.
