Brilliant vocalization,

This review is from: La Stupenda: The Supreme Voice Of Joan Sutherland (Audio CD)
I just wanted to say that hearing Sutherland singing the basic aria of Linda di Chamounix was such a delight. Yes she has overloaded the piece with stupid fioritura but this is Donizzeti and we all know that Donizzeti truly loved excessive vocal ornamentation so the result is truly magnificent and Sutherland sings trills, scales, trills upon scales, arpeggios... my God what an exhibition of a perfect voice. Then I'd like to say that her "Son vergin vezzosa" will always remain one of the best interpretations ever and she overused fioritura there too but not too much -this is Bellini not Donizzeti - so the result is perfect. The appearance of "O zitre nicht" in this recital brings me again the same question in mind. I have only one "Der Holler rach" - Queen's second aria in my possession, and that is the live Joan with Klemperer conducting. Where is her studio "Der holler rach kocht in meinem herzen"? In that live one, Sutherland had sung E flats instead of 5 Fs... could it be that Joan was actually afraid of "Der Holler's 5 Fs? But then how could that be since she herself had said that she had sung an F sharp once in her life... Her Turandot piece is ehhh... Joan was not born to sing Turandot... Now Esclarmonde, I do not understand why people keep saying that Esclarmonde could only be sung by Sutherland. Sutherland has sung so many much more difficult roles than Esclarmonde. Probably they have misinterpreted her desire to be remembered as Esclarmonde which derived from the fact that it was she and her husband who discovered the score of Esclarmonde and that for many years Joan was the only singer who had sung Esclarmonde - today the role has been sung by others. Of course she is sensational as Esclarmonde in one of the few roles she sang with excessive drama although in 1976 or so, her middle register had developed a tremolo making her voice sound old. Overall this is an exquisite sample of vocalization.

This recording is glorious, esp. the Eslarmonde-excerpts! Joanie recorded the entire opera as well, BUY THAT TOO!As for the Amazon-Customer spreading lies about me: I've said everything that was necessary at the Sutherland-Turandot. Just one thing more: Do you enjoy writing hateful stuff? It doesn't put YOU in a good light...

That's right!! Joan Sutherland simply was and always will be the GREATEST coloratura soprano of the 20th century, there is just no need to argue. The arias in this collection are text book references, young sopranos, listen and learn, old opera lovers, listen and reminisce. VIVA LA STUPENDA!!!!!!!
