About the Author

Béatrice Peltre was born and raised in the countryside in northeastern France. She is a freelance food writer, stylist, photographer, and the author of the award-winning blog LaTartineGourmande.com. Her work has appeared in such places as Saveur, the Washington Post, and the Boston Globe, as well as in other international and online publications and books. She lives in Boston with her husband and daughter.

This is my favourite recently acquired cookbook. I love it! My daughter and I have already tried quite a few recipes and all have been yummy. The photographs are beautiful and Beatrice Peltre writes in a clear and friendly style. The recipes are quite original, not just tweeked common ones. For example, we have made Millet, Oat and Apple Muffins; Sweet Potato and Carrot Pancakes; Jerusalem Artichoke Soup with Scallops; Tartines with Walnut, Lemon and Ricotta Pesto and Sauteed Mushrooms; Eggplant, Lamb and Winter Squash Crumble; White Lentil Soup with Chorizo, Poached Eggs and Paprika Cream; Meyer Lemon Tart with Raspberry Ripple and Chocolate Tahini Cookies. None were difficult to make and all were rated great by our family and friends. The recipes are also healthy and the seasonings are very well thought out. Highly recommended!

Bea's book is absolutely gorgeous (both in presentation and in taste). Every recipe is accompanied by a beautiful photograph (indeed - even foods I normally dislike look appetizing). So far I have tried a few of her breakfast recipes (the quinoa, poppyseed pancakes were delightful - very light and fluffy feeling), a tartelette (the potatoe mushroom one) and the buckwheat almond cake. Every recipe has been successful so far. Recipes are not overly complicated and ingredients are fairly common kitchen staples (if you are gluten free and have the normal mix of flours). I look forward to trying more recipes soon!

Very inspiring, beautiful photos but lots of ingredients that I would not have on hand. I think of this book more of a cookbook to look at and get ideas from than one to cook directly from.
