Buyer beware of whom?,
By sherry (california) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Labor of Love Childbirth Class (VHS Tape)
Hello All,Very seldom do I take the time to respond to arrogant people with no knowledge of childbirth. As the manufacture of the video I thought it was important to let you know that some people write comments when they have actually never seen the video, are competitors or in the case of John Maloney and his east coast friend, were caught and sued for pirating our video on ebay. Hateful people. Please remember when reading buyers beware comments, why certain people write things. We have been told the video has been very helpful to those unable to take classes, mothers on bedrest and also helpful for those wanting to learn 12 birthing positions including those on a birth ball. We still encourage going to class and having hands on learning. The video is an alternative. It is recommended by the National Organization Sidelines, CAPPA and distributed in hospitals, clinics, and libraries across the nation. Our goal is a realistic picture of birth. We share with parents your options so that you can make educated decisions what is right for your family. Birth is the hardest thing that a woman will ever go through in your entire life, but it is the most rewarding, especially when you welcome your baby. I wish you the best as you choose your options in childbirth. Please accept my apologies for those dishonest people. As a certified instructor, 15 years experience and known as an expert in my field, I believe I am familiar with the material. My heart made this video as an alternative and to help make a difference in the birth experience. It has made a difference out their and for that I am thankful. Best wishes on your delivery.

Worth renting,

I'm not sure I'd spend $50 retail on this video, but it was worth renting from my local library to get a good overview of labor and delivery. On the downside, the video/sound quality is somewhat poor (as many other reviewers have noted). Also, I wouldn't let this video be your sole authority on what labor and delivery are like. A few times, the instructor said something that didn't sound quite right to me, in comparison with reading I've done. For instance, she advises husbands to massage their wives' feet. That might be OK during labor, but I think a foot massage can induce labor and so shouldn't be done throughout pregnancy. The instructor doesn't point that out, though. On the upside, the instructor is very down-to-earth and seems very natural and experienced in describing what labor is typically like. Also, this video was good for demystifying C-sections for me. For awhile, I'd been thinking "I'd rather have a C-section than do things 'the old-fashioned way,'" but after watching this video, I can see that a C-section might be harder on one's body than a vaginal delivery. So, I think I got a more realistic view of what I might experience a couple of months from now by watching this video. Furthermore, the video must be doing something right if it kept my husband's attention -- I didn't think I'd get him to sit through it, but he watched it till the end with me. Also, I liked the segment at the end which shows "post-birth" pictures of the people who attended the class along with their little bundles of joy. My first reaction when watching the video was "What have I gotten myself into? How I can handle this?" And, of course, in watching the video, you can see the people in the class look intimidated at times, too. So, it's nice at the end to see that they and their babies all made it through the experience just fine, and that I should be able to do so, too.

GREAT CLASS, IT COVERS EVERY TOPIC!!,

My husband and I checked the tape out from the library when I was 5 months pregnant and we liked it very much. Then we attended the hospital class and we thought it was very useful, but this tape is more complete. So we decided to check it out again 2 weeks before my due date. We just finished watching it today (4 days from my due date!!!). We really like it. Yes, it is true that the filming quality is poor, but I'd rather have a video taped from a real class (it tells me about the experience of the instructor to tape it live) than a pre-made class.I don't agree with other reviewers who claim that you can read other books and get more information than with this tape. How can I say that? Well, I was lucky to not have to work for the last part of my pregnancy and I have checked out on the whole about 80-100 items (books and tapes) from the library. I think this is the best childbirth preparation class we've come across. Regarding other critics like watching births, etc. I just think you can't fit it all in here, otherwise it would become too lengthy. We simply checked out other tapes that are just that, births. Same thing: I wouldn't need those to explain about drugs you can get...
