--Philippe Margotin

5.0 out of 5 stars David Bowie is a Musical Genius June 4 2004
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
First I'd like to start by saying, I'm a huge David Bowie fan! The movie Labrynth is responsible for turning me on to David Bowie. He appeals to such a broad audience, that even at the age of 8 I was an instant fan and now my 6 year old son is begging to go to a concert. This soundtrack is a wonderful expression of David's versatility. I can't imagine it's an easy task to write music for a children's movie. Especially when he's spent most his time with an adult audience. But as usual, David brings his unparralled musical talents to this soundtrack! I highly recommend this soundtrack and movie to everyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite movie of all time. Oct. 30 2003
By Audrey
Format:Audio CD
There is nothing better than sitting down with a good bowl of popcorn, kicking back, and watching the best movie in the world. For me, that would be this movie. I remember seeing it for the first time when I was about 4, and it stuck with me ever since. When I'm bored, I watch this movie. When I have friends over, we watch this movie. My favorite quotes come from this movie... such as the ever-popular "Did you say Hello?" "No, I said 'Ello, but that's close enough", to the always hilarious "Please leave a contribution in the little box." This movie is the absolute perfect movie!

5.0 out of 5 stars from when i was 3 yrs old............ April 21 2003
Format:Audio CD
I remember my dad buying me a video to keep me occupied when i was 3, i think he wished he didn't. i used to watch it twice a day for about 3 years. i always noticed something different and the story never bored me. i remember wanting a pair of sarah's shoes cuz they made a clipperty sound. now i'm 18 and although i dont watch it twice everyday (haha) its still my ultimate favourite film. its 1 of those films that makes you wanna boogy, im so glad i've been able 2 find the soundtrack. my hi-fi will be booming!!! well done David and...erm.... Sarah!

4.0 out of 5 stars Nostalgiac... Dec 18 2003
Format:Audio CD
That's probably the main reason this soundtrack/score appeals to me so much, but another reason would probably be it's a genuinely enticing musical experience.
Of course, there's Davie Bowie's songs, and Trevor Jones' score. First off -- Jones is a great, underrated film composer with some magnificent pieces under his belt. His scores are always appropriate and (unlike a lot of composers today) most often subtle and non-intrusive. That said, Labyrinth is certainly not his pinnacle achievement, and it seems to transport us back to the whacky, beginning-of-a-synthisized-era 80's than the far-away, extravagant universe of Labyrinth. To his credit, the theme for Sarah ("Sarah"), the main character, is beautiful and enchanting, likewise the "Hallucination" piece is rather hypnotic with it's synthetic strings, sleazy saxaphones and whiny electric guitar rifs, but overall the score isn't the standout here.
So, yeah, this CD is, in short, Bowie's. It's an awesome combination of rock-rolling, playful songs that are brilliantly orchestrated/produced and wholly fitting for the whacky, imaginative nature of the film. On the other hand, some of the songs (like those in other unexpected films -- Willy Wonka, off the top of my head), on closer examination, have some rather eerie, psychadelic lyrics that are quite frankly pretty surreal. Strange stuff.
But the songs, man are they indispensable. "As the World Falls Down" is haunting and unforgettable -- a love song for the ages. "Dance Magic Dance" was stuck in my head as a little kid and still has yet to get out -- I have every note and lyric memorized. "Within You" is, like the Jones' piece I mentioned above, absolutely hypnotic and other-wordly.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bowie and the Muppets Aug. 31 2003
By Vilbs
Format:Audio CD
As if getting to watch David Bowie sing and dance on a cult classic movie with the muppets wasn't good enough, the soundtrack to the movie has proven to be every bit as enjoyable as the film that spawned it. Alternating the instrumental score work of Trevor Jones with Bowie's original songs, the sounds that played such an important part in the movie are equally impressive when listened to on their own.
The Bowie contributions run the range from very fun, relatively light-weight songs such as "Underground", "Chilly Down", and "Magic Dance", to more serious and somber songs such as the beautiful "As The World Falls Down" and "Within You". The score blends perfectly with David's compositions, and really ties the soundtrack together into a great listening experience.
For anyone who enjoyed watching David Bowie and the goblins, (tights, big fuzzy wig, and all) this soundtrack is a must have and is guaranteed to leave you with a smile on your face and wondering where you left your copy of the video.

5.0 out of 5 stars Labyrinth: From the Original Soundtrack March 16 2001
Format:Audio CD
I cant tell you how excited I was to find this cd! I have the movie (that took a while to find!), and now the cd to go with it. This was my favorite childhood movie (I'm now 17), and I used to watch this every time my aunt would baby sit us. I still watch it at least once a month. If you liked the movie, and are thinking about getting the cd, listen to it here online. It is actually so much better than what they have time to show you here. This is a perfect gift (even better if they have the movie), for anyone who likes stuff like 'the muppet show,' the old t.v. show 'fraggle rock,' books like 'where the wild things are,' and any of Jim Henson's other movies. This is a great show for parents to sit and watch with their children; its exciting enough for both to like it. It has all of the ingredients kids want in a movie: a good story line, a brave young girl setting out on an adventure; monsters (but not too scary), a whole bunch of interesting muppet-like characters; and my personal favorite, the fox-dog looking 'knight,' Sir Dittimus. The story takes you through a maze full of twists, turns, and surprises; a goblin city; a smelly swamp; a jungle with 'fire monsters,' and the goblin king's own castle. This is a great movie for kids, and the cd is great for at home, or long car rides. If you're thinking of getting it, I can promise that most aren't disappointed with it. 14 years later, I still like it.
