This legendary Rolling Stones concert film, shot over four nights in Texas during the "Exile ON Main Street" tour in 1972, was released in cinemas for limited engagements in 1974 and has remained largely unseen since. Now, restored and remastered, Ladies and Gentlemen makes its first authorized appearance on Blu-ray. This is one of the finest Rolling Stones concerts ever captured on film and features outstanding performances of classic tracks from the late '60s and early '70s.

1974 and released into selected cinemas across the USA shortly afterwards. It was billed at the time

This concert is simply great, it captures the Stones at their peak and doesn't look pale in comparison to the classic album Get yer ya-ya's out.Filmed over a few nights during the 1972 "Exile on Main Street" tour, the show features the Rolling Stones with a brass section and a keyboardist (no chorists). Although you can see Mick Jagger with different clothing, the energy of the various dates is constantly high and feels as if the performances came from only one representation. The concerts starts off with a version of Brown Sugar that sounds like Brown Sugar. The interplay between Mick Taylor and Keith Richards creates a song that reproduces the magic of the Sticky Fingers opener and that feeling goes on through the show. In this video Keith Richards still hasn't become the pop culture icon which he is associated with now. He doesn't have time to make poses, gestures, faces and all those gimmicks (he doesn't even smoke). He is just too busy playing to keep up with Mick Taylor's constant soloing. Keith finally provides backing vocals on the fourth song of the show, Dead Flowers and his high-pitched countryesque vocals are excellent to compensate for the absence of chorists on Sweet Virginia. Personally, I prefer the songs without chorists although Gimme Shelter is missing the female voice. It is great to hear Bitch and Happy has never rocked that much. Jagger provides Richards with a little help during the chorus and the chemistry works all along. You don't get to see much of Wyman and Watts however. The setlist doesn't have much filler, but I could have spared Chuck Berry's Bye Bye Johnny for Wild Horses, Rocks Off or additional Beggars' Banquet material. Bonuses inlude rehearsals of Shake your Hips, Tumbling Dice and Bluesberry Jam which are nice. Filming is old-fashioned "catch what's in front of the camera" and not annoying split second editing. You don't see much of the audience and that's fine by me. The overall quality and listening experience is way beyond the Gimme Shelter movie. The Rolling Stones would never have got as big as they are today if they didn't have that classic 1967-72 era which, ultimately, focussed on making great music. Great concert footage of The Rolling Stones at their peak. Compared to their newer live shows from the last couple of decades which depict them more or less posing on stage as characters, its nice to see footage of them when they were still a band. No supporting musicians keeping the music together while the celebrities up front make faces for the crowd, just the Stones playing the music they created and actually caring about how they make it. I'm a fan of Get Yer Ya Ya's Out, from their '69 Tour, but I think they were even better by the time this show was taped in '72, touring behind Exile On Main Street.The cameras don't stray too far from Mick Jagger, but Keith and Mick Taylor do get some camera time. Unfortunately, Bill and Charlie are pretty much left out. The video on blu-ray isn't up to high-def standards, but that's simply due to the source footage. The sound is great considering the age of the source. If you have a hard time watching the Stones' current live shows and are a fan of the Mick Taylor era, I can't recommend this highly enough.

I have had a boot of this film for about the last year and i watch it often so I have been really pumped waiting for this. It was worth the wait! They have done an amazing job fixing up the film print and the 5.1 mix is great. This film was made during the Stone's 1972 "Exile On Main Street" Tour. Back when the Stones were "The Greatest Rock and Roll Band In The World". The set list is made up from what I concider the three best Stone's records. All but 3 tracks come from "Exile", "Let It Bleed" and "Sticky Fingers". The other great thing about this show is it really is just the Stones plus 2 horn players and a key board player (Not like what i call the floor show years like the band in "At The Max" not that that is a bad show but they do have 9 extra players on stage). This is the Stones still going out there and giving it all they got. It is great to finally have a full show from the Mick Taylor period. If you never understood why people love the Rolling Stones so much this is why. If you want to give one DVD or Blu Ray a try this is the one. If you don't like this thats cool it just means the Rolling Stones are not for you.
