Product Description

Thirty years after she first heard his voice singing on the jukebox at her local drive-in, Barbara Ann Blakely heard Frank Sinatra take the wedding vows that began his fourth, final, and most enduring marriage.

In Lady Blue Eyes, Barbara Sinatra’s first public love letter to the husband she adored, she celebrates the sensational singer, possessive mate, sexy heartthrob, and devoted friend that she found in Frank.  For more than two decades, Barbara was always by his side, traveling the globe and hosting glittering events for their famous friends, including presidents, kings, queens, Hollywood royalty, and musical legends.  Among them were Sammy Davis, Jr., Princess Grace of Monaco, Bob Dylan, and Ronald Reagan.  Each night, as Frank publicly wooed his bride with love songs from a concert stage, she’d fall in love with him all over again.

From her own humble beginnings in a small town in Missouri to her time as a fashion model and her marriage to Zeppo Marx, Barbara Sinatra reveals a life lived with passion, conviction, and grace.  A founder of the Miss Universe pageant and a onetime Vegas showgirl, she raised her only son almost single-handedly in often dire circumstances until, after five years of tempestuous courtship, she and Frank committed to each other wholeheartedly.  In stories that leap off the page, she takes us behind the scenes of her iconic husband’s legendary career and paints an intimate portrait of a man who was variously generous, jealous, witty, and wicked.  Coupled with revealing insights about many of Frank’s celebrated songs, this is much more than the story of a showbiz marriage.

It is a story of passion and of a deep and lifelong love.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not the Full Monty, Nov 22 2011

This review is from: Lady Blue Eyes: My Life with Frank (Hardcover)
The book Lady Blue Eyes for the most part glimpses into rather selective and shallow reflections of Barbara Sinatra's 29 years as the fourth wife of Frank Sinatra. Sadly the book lacks some credibility. Why for example are there no mentions of Frank's children, Frank Jr,Tina and Nancy Sinatra. Frank Jr. gets just three passing references(Frank Jr was one of Frank's pallbearers-he also inherited Frank's music). These individuals were such a significant part of Frank's life until the end. Reading Barbara's book you wouldn't know his children existed; Barbara Sinatra's son by her first marriage, Bobby Marx, gets frequent and lengthy glowing mentions. This is the story Barbara wants the world to believe. It's mostly gloss. Although there are revelations of some of Frank's insensitivities: his bad temper, his idiosyncracies and his acts of kindness-most corroborated in other Sinatra biographies-new revelations are few . Perhaps my biggest disappointment with her book is her lack of complete candour. She might also have included for Frank's fans a reference to the popular Sirius cable radio station which has a 24/7 programme "Seriously Sinatra" dedicated to Sinatra's music. The Sirius Sinatra programmes are often hosted by Nancy, Tina and Frank Jr. This might explain why Barbara prefers not to acknowledge the programme?

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, But Mostly One-Sided., Oct 23 2011

This review is from: Lady Blue Eyes: My Life with Frank (Hardcover)
I have always been fascinated with Sinatra, Martin, etc. This book was "ok", but it really wasn't as in-depth as I thought it would be. The story told by "Lady Blue Eyes" seems quite one-sided and makes it seem as though she directed Frank's life throughout their marriage. That's a hard thing to believe given his persona and his ambition up until then. All in all, it wasn't a spectacular read. It makes Mrs. Sinatra seems like a gold-digger, in my opinion, and it muddies the memory of one of the greatest entertainers to ever live.

4.0 out of 5 stars BARBARA SINATRA - TAKE A BOW, Aug 16 2011
By
This review is from: Lady Blue Eyes: My Life with Frank (Hardcover)
Like millions the world over, Frank Sinatra is one of my favourite singers. He belongs in the galaxy of greats that also include Dean Martin, Ella Fitzgerald, Peggy Lee, Doris Day, Billie Holiday and others. Although I so enjoy Sinatra's message, I hesitated ordering this book. I am so glad that I changed my mind. It was a fascinating, first-hand account of "old blue eyes" by his widow, Barbara Sinatra. What made the difference with this biography of a "star" is it was written by a woman whose own life has been fascinating. I was enthralled to read about Barbara Sinatra's life story, from humble beginnings to her entry into a world of fame and fortune. She deserves to take a bow for penning a biography of the first order. Highly recommended!
