From Library Journal
When a mysterious "Spanish lady" appears in a small Wiltshire village asking after one of the local residents, she not only attracts the attention of the town residents but puzzles Lord Danebridge, the military officer and government agent who has been secretly following her. Eastwood effectively peels away the layers of both plot and character in this well-researched story, exposing bits and pieces of the heroine's past only as needed and withholding key information almost to the end. With a heroine who is occasionally too impulsive, some fairly violent action, and a few realistically unsavory characters, this story is darker than some Regencies. Eastwood (An Unlikely Hero, Signet Regency, 1996) lives in Rhode Island.
