A tense thriller, Feb 1 2009
Lakeview Terrace is about an interracial couple who move into a new LA home. Their neighbour is a cop played by Samuel L Jackson who is less than thrilled by their moving in. Neighbourly bickering ensues, culminating in a nail-biting climax. This is a very entertaining thriller, not super-original mind you, but still a great way to spend a couple of hours. If it feels like you've seen this movie before, you probably have: the whole racist LA cop thing was done (albeit with a different twist) in Crash. And the voyeurism aspects of the movie really reminded me of "Disturbia", another flick of a couple years ago. But despite being derivative, Lakeview Terrace is an entertaining thriller and it's fascinating to see Jackson, who we usually root for, play such an unlikeable character. Recommended.

Interracial Racism Still A Reality, April 19 2009
In this rather chilling and disturbing thriller, Samuel L. Jackson plays a very racist character (Abel Turner) who has a problem with interracial couples, and white people in General. A interracial couple; Chris & Lisa Mattison (Patrick Wilson & Kerry Washington respectively) moves next door to Abel Turner and his two kids Celia (Regine Nehy) and Marcus (Jaishon Fisher). Abel lost his wife 3 years ago and the pains are still strong. Abel is a L.A. cop (a very abusive one), and uses his powers to control his children like they live in a boot camp. Abel has a big problem with the interracial couple moving next door, so he does things to try to force them to move out or make the couple suspicious of the neighbourhood. First he shines big flood lights through their windows at nighttime, which greatly irritates them, and he constantly spies on them. As time goes on, the interracial couple starts to see things on their property sabatoged (air-conditioner wires cut, car tires slashed), which makes the Chris and Lisa uncomfortable with their Abel living next door. As the film goes on, things beging to escalate as Abel starts making very bold moves to try and force them out of the neighbourhood. Lakeview Terrace is a very rascist type of movie that is sadly still all to true in some areas of the world, and North America. It is not a film for everyone, as the racism may bother some people. However it is a very eye-opening film to the different struggles we don't always see in the world. It is for sure worth watching.
