Product Description

"With an approachable style and easy-to-follow instructions, Judy Lake makes lampshades fun. She got me, a beginner crafter, to make a shade that looks like a custom creation. If you can’t take a trip to Vermont to visit her, this book is the second best thing."
—Frances Bailey, Country Living

When I became very interested in lampshade making I began the search for a good "how to" book. They did not exist but I guess my timing was good because I discovered Judy Lake's brand new publication that had just come out. As a photographer I admired and appreciated the beautiful pictures of original and gorgeous lampshades made by Judy. She divides the book into sections ranging from basic to intermediate and explains the process of each pictured lampshade step by step. In the back of the book is a handy glossary and an even handier resources section. I have started a small business making lampshades using my photography - Judy's book is always by my side.

This book is beautifully presented with wonderful photography. Judy Lake offers generous instruction details on how to make lampshades and lists her many sources as well.
I highly recommend this book, it easily convinced me to head to the States for a joyful weekend lampshade making workshop with Judy Lake when the opportunity arose.

Excellently Presented Sept. 24 2009
By Judith A. Caccioli - Published on
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
I was very impressed with Judy's book on making lampshades. She was very thorough, down to the smallest detail. The difference between "homemade" and "custom" is HUGE, and Judy guides you through the entire process for a real professional look. I highly recommend this book for anyone who has a real desire to make custom lampshades and put a designer's touch on their total decorating.

A satisfied customer,
Judy Caccioli, from Cape Cod.

Lighten up! Sept. 17 2009
By S. Duncan - Published on
Format: Hardcover
I know you really want a whole new style. But don't let the same old look of your home bring you down. With this easy to follow and incredibly beautiful illustrated guide, you will give it a completely new style or accent stylishly what you have already accomplished.I just wish I had more time to make more of these funky and stylish lampshades Judy describes in her book. All these fabric pieces that I have collected ,because they were just too precious to be passed by, would finally find there purpose.
Judy Lake has achieved to fabricate a craftbook in the real original sense ,a book about a craft that she has perfected to an art.The love for her art shows in every detail and on every page.Even if you can restrain (which is hard !) yourself from having a go at one of the described lampshade projects, this book is so gorgeous ,that it will make the perfect coffee table book for everyone to enjoy.
I have given this book as a present to my german mother in law and even though her friends do not speak english they just love it and keep bugging me to translate parts so they can start "lampshading" too.
Oh, before I forget, I really do like the incredibly helpful source guide in the back of the book with all the links you may need to buy materials and fabrics to successfully complete you lampshade projects.
Get the book, fall in love with it and you will see, in no time there will be art, where before there was only light.

Who knew making lampshades could be so fun! Sept. 17 2009
By Tricia Cecil - Published on
Format: Hardcover
Having studied lampshade-making with Judy Lake, I can attest to the fact that her book reflects the passion she brings to her art. I found her day-long seminar in VT both fun and enlightening, and I anxiously awaited the release of her book. Now that it's availabile, I have been able to broaden my knowledge base. The book is easy to follow, features terrific photos, and best of all, it provides a wealth of fresh ideas. Through Judy's insight, I am now able to see all kinds of creative possibilities! I am really enjoying making my own shades, and I have Judy--and her book--to thank for that.

It's Like Icing A Fabulous Cake Sept. 18 2009
By Ellen Adler - Published on
Format: Hardcover
Unlike most "how to" books, The Lampshades Lady's Guide to Lighting Up Your Life, is as divinely inspirational as it is practical. Judy Lake has done for decoration, namely lampshades, what New York eye wear superstar Robert Marc has done for accessories; both have lifted their own particular stock and trade to runway status. Judy Lake has removed the corny, the ordinary and the boring, and has replaced it with the unexpected, intelligent and inventive. Trained as a weaver, and consummate lady of fabric and textiles, no book before on this subject, (and there are few) has ever allowed the audience such vast discipline, and plain old practical instruction, as to empower a mere novice to emerge nothing short of enlightened.
