I never heard fo Sarah Slean until I read an article about her latest album and decided to check it out. Boy was I impressed! I don't know anything about her other than she is canadian, she sings, and she plays the piano. Her voice is what really makes her stand out. It is truly incredible. She must have had at least 10 years of singing lessons. She can also write some great lyrics. Land and Sea is 2 cds. The first one LAND, has 9 songs. Mostly lighthearted and most of them very catchy. Set it free and everybody's on tv are great tracks. Amen is a beautiful song. The last song, society's song is probably the catchiest of the bunch.

The second cd SEA, also has 9 songs, this time backed by a full orchestra. SEA drops the pop cathyness and goes for more serious music. the 2 best tracks are cosmic ballet and napolean. although is remains good throughout. Again what stands out is her incredible voice.

After being blown away by her album I am going to check out some of her previous works.

For me - Kate Bush is still the number one in the female singer-songwriter world. But Sarah is so close...it's just fantastic; and the orchestral part of this double-cd is really a masterpiece. Best wishes from Germany!

I had never heard Sarah Sleane til an interview and some songs from the "Sea" portion of the album on CBC's Q. I was entranced enough to immediately order the album. The two parts, Land and Sea, are incredibly different, the first(Land) being more pop. I understand this is more in line with her previous albums which I have not heard. While I thought her lyrics good and enjoyed some of the music from this section, I would not have bought the album on the strength of these alone. Sea ,however, blew me away.. There are many facets to this music and I have heard nothing comparable.I can only say that closing one's eyes and listening is a rich experience..very visual, evoking fluid imagery, and tangible influences upon one's breathing as you enter into the music's life. The lyric's are outstanding, deep and yet infused with an optimism and delight. At times I felt myself at a magical performance of Cirque du Soleil, (for which this would warrant it's own production!). If I had to compare her to anyone, at a pinch there is an evocation of Edith Piaf perhaps. But really she stands on her own with this one. I will be interested to see whether this side of her music is further explored in the future.I hope so.

Bought this CD on Friday, and popped it in the player Saturday, and by Sunday I realized that I had come upon something very special.
The 'SEA' is a masterpiece. Give it a listen and tell me I'm wrong.
