Honest and Open, Feb 18 2009

Sheilah Vance's writing is refreshingly honest! The main character, Carolyn, keeps a clearly written account of her thoughts and feelings as she journeys through separation, divorce, and dating again... a very real emotional roller-coaster ride!
What I find most interesting about the book is that it covers areas of divorce that women have to deal with, which lots of people don't know about (hence, the name!) Sheilah takes her character through an emotionally-challenging experience of heartache, fear, and turmoil and turns it into a triumphant journey of faith, self-discovery, and love.

Naked & Bare, Sep 6 2009

This review is from: Land Mines (Paperback)
After eleven-years of marriage and two children, Carolyn James' husband, Tom, leaves her for his yoga instructor. During the separation Carolyn has a difficult time trying to maintain the household, the bills and taking care of the children without any help from her estranged husband. Shortly after the separation, Tom files for divorce, leaving Carolyn more confused than ever.
To cope she decides to keep a journal of sorts, a divorce journal, chronicling her feelings. Here Carolyn lays "naked and bares" her deep, thought provoking feelings, anger, hurt and also the desire of wanting someone to love her, since she has so much love to give. Unfortunately, she goes through a series of relationships that are not healthy.
LAND MINES by Sheilah Vance is a fictional account of one woman's journey of trying to stay clear of the "land mines," or the explosive traps that may be set up waiting to explode. Any woman that has been dumped or divorced will be able to relate to this book. Ms. Vance kindly shares many wonderful quotes. Her strong belief that God will bring her through can serve to be uplifting to others that may be going or have gone through similar situations.
The story reads as a journal. That at times is somewhat confusing, because there are so many gaps in between the story it leaves the reader wondering what happened to lead up to that key "moment." Also, there were a few journal entries that were totally unnecessary, such as what the character bought that day and her to do list for the day. It was a bit repetitive. I think if the author would have made it non-fiction then my rating would have been a little higher.
