From the start, Las Vegas has attracted a diverse array of guest stars, from musicians, like Little Richard ("New Orleans"), to movie stars, like Sean "Samwise" Astin ("You Can't Take It With You"). Even "Mr. Las Vegas" himself, Wayne Newton, puts in an appearance ("Pros and Cons"). Other notable guests include Elliot Gould ("Jokers and Fools"), Jean-Claude Van Damme ("Die Fast, Die Furious"), and Alec Baldwin ("Hellraisers and Heartbreakers"), hot off his Oscar-nominated turn in The Cooler.
First used in heist hit Ocean's 11, Elvis Presley's "A Little Less Conversation" (JXL remix) is the Las Vegas theme song. On the DVD set, however, it's replaced by "Let It Ride" on all episodes except the pilot. Also, the subtitle "Uncut and Uncensored" indicates footage too hot for network TV, but the additions are minor. While a few seconds have been added to the more risqué sex/poolside scenes, any other changes from the original broadcast are difficult to detect. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

By Sit Spin "skcoach" (Vancouver, BC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Las Vegas: Season 1 (DVD)
THIS is the best Season of Las Vegas before it went bad in later seasons, the interaction between Caan and Duhamel is great! BUT why is Amazon.ca selling Season 1 at a RIDICULOUS PRICE! I paid $14.00+tx at Wal-Mart. Why is Amazon.ca selling it at $60 + shipping and handling.

Baywatch in a Casino,

This review is from: Las Vegas: Season 1 (DVD)
I asked for Las Vegas:S1 as a Christmas present as I had heard good things about the series. Probably I should have paid more attention to the cover of the DVD as there were some clues as to what the series was about. Namely, four young, attractive women who were clearly chosen as much for the photogenic qualities than acting skills - save perhaps Vanessa Marcil who belongs on Broadway compared to some of her co-stars.So the Baywatch comparison is obvious: Yasmine and Pamela were put in bathing suits for the same reason Nikki Coxx is obsessional about flaunting her cleavage in just about every scene in season one, regardless of the situation. Come to think of it, with a name like that and such a willingness to be noted - and fantasized about - due to her "assets" instead of abilities, maybe she should try working in the San Fernando Valley? Seriously though, clearly eye candy = viewers = ratings. The plots are pretty much fluff. Semi-serious main stories with often comical/lighthearted sub plots. Most of the "serious" ones are a stretch on credibility with the suspense undermined by obvious clues (Caan trying on the mask in "Hellraisers & Heartbreakers" for one example) or just plain face-palm preposterous (the Asian assassin throwing a shuriken to kill Mr. Zhao in "Year of the Tiger"), while the humorous parts are just silly (the Swizzle Stick collectors convention in "Decks and Violence"). Perhaps most annoying to me was how so many of the guests are caricatures and/or weak stereotypes. The overly-sensitive gay man complaining about his toilet in "Things That Go Jump in the Night" was one of many sad examples. It's labeled on IMDB as a crime/drama/thriller series but if you are expecting a CSI-style show, forget it. If you like suspense, there's not much (see above) and as for drama ... well the ongoing love story between the clearly insecure, attention-starved Mary (Coxx) and Danny (Duhamel) is about as deep as it gets, and even that storyline is predictable and contrived. Simply put, you could argue the show mirrors the city on which it's based: Lots of flash with little substance. On the good side, sure, it's certainly watchable, at times funny and touching and for the most part it's entertaining. The first season had its moments but sadly seems that the studios felt that the same formula that worked for Baywatch would still work 15 years later. Apparently, they were right.

BEST SHOW AND DVD EVER!!!!,
By Nick (Ontario, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Las Vegas: Season 1 (DVD)
I only started watching this show at the beginning of the second season and I was hooked. I was curious to see what happened in the first season. As much as you can follow each episode without watching the first season, you need it to understand the relationships between all of the characters. It is brilliantly shot, and the stories are fast paced. I could literally watch this show everyday. I especially enjoy watching the DVD because it, of course, has no commercials to interrupt it. I haven't watched the special features yet, but I like the show enough itself that it doesn't really matter. If you want to watch a fun TV show with lots of gorgeous women, and I've never seen so many on any other show, then GET THIS DVD IMMEDIATELY! I guarantee you that you will not be disappointed. Its 17 hours of pure fun! It makes me want to move to Vegas and work there!!!
