Product Description

It was a favour to a dead friend: Frank Morgan is shepherding a group of mail-order brides to a brawling Alaska boomtown called Skagway. A bushwhacking, a storm-racked sea voyage, and an anything-but-friendly reception isn't enough to stop Morgan and his blushing brides. But a beautiful woman has a lucrative plot on her mind - in the wild, wild north where men are mad with greed and loneliness. Now the last gunfighter will need skills he didn't know he had - plus a few he knows he does. Because this Alaska winter has turned into a death trap. And only the brave, the fierce and the lucky will be alive to see the winter thaw...

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best!!!!!!!, Jan 15 2011
This review is from: Last Gunfighter Winter Kill (Mass Market Paperback)
I have read this complete series and as most of the books, they seem the same old story - a gunfighter kills everybody but...

This book is by far the best so far in the series. I'm sure the author would have loved to write more on this story as it seems to end like a Stephen King story - too quick. The plot takes us into the north, into the cold freezing waters, ice, snow, and blizzards. Super story but the ending is a bit of a let down.

Why didn't the author just continue the story in a second book is beyond me. There are errors (I live up north). When a person crashes through ice, the body becomes numb in minutes. To be thrown off a ship in freezing water and wake up on freezing beach - you would be dead.

But this is a story so I won't go to much in detail.

Do I recommend this book? Oh YA!

- Michel

Thanks for the super story Mr. JA Johnstone!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another winner, Mar 9 2010
By T. Hodges - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Last Gunfighter Winter Kill (Mass Market Paperback)
Frank Morgan takes a trip to Seattle on the way to Alaska. That information alone was enough to get me excited about this book, since I lived in Seattle for seven years. Frank meets an old friend who, as he is dying, gets Frank to make a promise. And Frank, of course, never goes back on his word. This book is an interesting mix of Frank's classic Western values in a different setting. There is a lot more suspense in the story, which I enjoyed. The suspense adds a lot to Frank's adventure because in some of the previous books he wins against incredible odds and sometimes it seems a little too easy. I liked the new characters that seem like they will carry over to other books, like the Smoke Jensen series does. If you like action, suspense and, of course, everything about Frank Morgan and the West, you will really enjoy this book.
