."..what "Last Words" ultimately reveals is how Carlin became a political protester, slam poet, cynic, polemicist and performance artist whose messages were delivered under the veneer of humor." --"Washington Post" --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

I have long been a fan of George Carlin and thoroughly enjoyed reading Last Words. George struggled with whether he wanted to be alone with his thoughts or work collaboratively with groups. Later in life he realized he was a complete loner who was nourished by his favorite group, the audience. He was happiest when he felt that connection with his audience and was able to make people think differently. The biggest compliment anyone could pay him was to say - your a weird guy and I loved your show. George didn't want to be buried or cremated he wanted to be BLOWNUP. So George your one strange SOB, I loved all your stuff - from the Hippy Dippy Weatherman to HBO specials about the Planet. I hope your floating around out there - still bigger, smaller and the same as the universe and of course there's no God! A must read for George Carlin fans.

I'm glad he left quite a few number of DVDs and books. After reading this book, I realized how hard it is to be somebody like Gerorge Carlin, an exceptionally brave thinker. Highly recommended for those who reject the standard dull life we are forced to accept.

I was lucky enough to be at his last show in Vegas on feb. 14th, 2008.
What will a do now at he is no more??
But with those writen words I could always look for guidance because, for me, he was the greatest philosopher of all time.
Rest in peace George.

my liking of George carlin has changed considerably after reading this. His personal life seemed to be one of selfishness & a real dislike for people in general - the part about forcing his wife to get an abortion was a bit of a shock . I always overlooked the foul language in his monologues & just appreciated the humour - now I think as he aged he became just a nasy bitter old man who was turning into being like the people he railed against . --S.C.
