Product Description

From Amazon.com

Christian (Wes Ramsey of the washboard abs) is a waiter, party boy, and first-class man magnet. Elder Aaron Davis (Steve Sandvoss of the goofy grin) is a straight-laced Mormon missionary. When he and three elders, including the uptight Ryder (Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Mysterious Skin), move into Christian's Hollywood apartment complex, it's clear something's got to give. Christian tries to make his new neighbors feel welcome, but they're put off by his flamboyance--the short-shorts, the rainbow flag in his yard, etc. When Christian's trash-talking pals at Lila's restaurant, including the cynical Traci (Amber Benson, Buffy the Vampire Slayer), bet that he can't seduce one of these clean-cut young men, he takes them up on it and sets his sights on cute, soft-spoken Aaron. As a pretense, he asks to learn more about his Church, but where they really connect is over their love of old movies, everything from Psycho to Tommy. When Aaron accuses him of being shallow, however, Christian starts to wonder if the bet wasn't such a good idea--plus he's starting to fall for the guy. Turns out the closeted Aaron feels the same way about him, but when his roommates find out, he's shipped back to Pocatello where he faces excommunication. Written and directed by C. Jay Cox (Sweet Home Alabama), a former Mormon missionary, Latter Days features Mary Kay Place as Aaron's disapproving mother and Jacqueline Bisset as the acerbic, yet supportive Lila. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

4.0 out of 5 stars The First Mormon to Rock since The Osmond's (probably)!, Mar 1 2012

This review is from: Latter Days (Unrated Edition) (DVD)
This has been on my `to watch' list for ages, so I finally got to see what all the fuss was about and was pleasantly surprised. It stars Steven Sandvoss as Elder Aaron Davis (a Mormon missionary), he has been sent to L.A. to bring the word of God to the uninitiated. He moves into an apartment opposite Christian (Wes Ramsey) who is a waiter who likes to hook up with gay men whenever possible, i.e. all the ruddy time.

In a pique of post work stupidity his co workers challenge him to `turn' one of the Mormons. He has already spotted Aaron and likes what he sees and wastes very little time in `going for it'. Big problem is that whilst having many wives was ok in the Mormon religion, being with a man is absolutely verboten. This point is rammed home by a sprightly Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Elder Paul Ryder) who, as ever, puts in a short but excellent performance (see `Mysterious Skin').

Whilst Christian may have been motivated by cash, it soon becomes painfully clear that he has genuine feelings for Aaron who comes across as a caring, loving and devout young man. What transpires will pull them apart and leave them guessing as to how to move on.

I really enjoyed this film; it is well acted, directed and filmed and tells a very difficult story with care and compassion. C.J. Cox who both wrote and directed this has clearly done a piece straight from the heart and it shows in the attention to detail. All of the supporting actors are above good and no-one is black and white. Just as in real life people are a mix of what has influenced them and the old battle between nature and nurture is played to the full. An offbeat enjoyable and sometimes challenging drama - I hope you will enjoy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars so so sooooo good! the gay movie we all need to see..., Sep 22 2005
This review is from: Latter Days (Unrated Edition) (DVD)
every once and awhile a movie comes out of the thicket of movie pollution that is forced upon us these days. latter days is one of those gems! the story moved me to tears at the end and my body to tingles. true, the plot may have seemed rushed at times, but the way it all came together in the end smoothed that right over. latter days is one of those beautiful stories that makes us want to improve our lives and to find that someone who means more to us then even our own lives. bravo to all who were involved. thank you for bringing a story to me that i will treasure forever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Latter Days Sparkles!, Jan 4 2005
By A Customer
This review is from: Latter Days (Unrated Edition) (DVD)
I received this as a Christmas gift and had no preconceived ideas of the movie as I had not heard of it. After viewing it I can tell you that it is way above the average movie of this type. I too was moved to tears in some scenes and felt the pain of the characters. Which is not to say it is a depressing movie. It sparkles with life and real people, and humor is a great part of the movie. A good, solid script coupled with good actors, good direction and pleasing camera work, all combine to provide a sparkling and different look at our gay world.
