a big disapointmment,
By
This review is from: Lauryn Hill:MTV Unplugged (DVD)
Unplugged shows are usually the cream in sound as far as I`m concerned this one as sound YES but where`s the show she`s all alone from beginning to end. WHERE are the musicians like someone else said, Song one to the last song sounds the same. She`s not the Tommy Emmanuel of guitar so a couple of songs alone OK but not the whole show.
Watched it once never will again

relentess 'sharing',
By Fred (The Netherlands) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lauryn Hill:MTV Unplugged (DVD)
To me the first song sounds like the last and the potential joy of listening to Lauryn Hill drops below zero because of her relentless 'sharing' her personal feelings between each and every song. Many many minutes of increasing agony each of the 3 times I played this dvd. I really tried. It's my opinion that no artist - even with the biggest of egos - should throw is type of discomfort at the listener. I bought this dvd solely based on her 'Fugees' reputation and I would be happy to return it if it were a bad product, which is it is not. It plays. My mistake. Try before you buy.

impressive but.....,
This review is from: Lauryn Hill:MTV Unplugged (DVD)
I'm a Lauryn Hill fan and I purchased this DVD cus of the positive reviews posted this site. She's really good, no doubt about that. Her voice was cracking a lot of times though. You could really feel what she's saying. Not bad with the guitar also. When the track starts, you'll get into it, after a while you'll loose focus cus there's too much adlib. I'm sure the audience felt the same way. Some were already out of it. She's really good but there's too much adlib. She also talks too much in between tracks. An hour and 45 minutes with only 13 songs..... go figure
