4.0 out of 5 stars A good start., April 30 2007
By Ria Bridges (Saint John, New Brunswick Canada) - See all my reviews
This book does have quite a few fascinating things in it aside from the patterns. The swatches in various colourways, the backstory about the design process, the different types of dyeing, and so on. I enjoy reading these. It brings designing down to earth and lets people new to the field understand that even famous designers get their inspiration from every7day things.

The patterns in this book are quite nice, and pretty, but I must admit I was hoping for a few more complex patterns, or perhaps patterns that I couldn't find in just about any other book about lace knitting. Don't get me wrong; that doesn't mean this book will lose its place on my bookshelf. It just means that I was hoping for a little more, and didn't get it. The book is still a good one, and one I would definitely recommend to people who are just starting to get into lace knitting. But don't buy this book thinking you're going to come out of it with a spectacular shawl that will wow the masses.

Now Knitted Lace Really Is for Everyone.
The combination of design and the use of hand painted yarn allows you to produce presents that people look forward to getting. That is if you can give them up. I found the "Ocean Blue" design the most striking.

The book has beautiful pictured and easy to understand patterns. An added plus is the use of Cherry Tree Hill Inc. yarn. Cherry Tree Hill Inc. is owned by Cheryl Potter. There is even a section on hand dying.

The book its self has large front and back flaps that can be used for book marks

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful book, but slightly dated, Dec 30 2004
By Ginny (Ontario Canada) - See all my reviews
This is truly a lovely book to look at. The patterns are easy to read, and the yarns used are gorgeous. The photography leaves a little to be desired--at the top of each pattern is the item displayed in a somewhat haphazard manner. Only one brand of yarn is used throughout the book, but it can easily be substituted with your favourite handpaint. The only thing I was somewhat disappointed in was the standard shawl and scarf patterns presented. I was hoping for some daring, unique lace patterns, but that was not to be. If you like traditional lace projects, then this is the book for you. If you're looking for something more cutting edge, then you may want to look elsewhere.
