Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, the hard-hitting and emotionally charged second series from the critically acclaimed Law & Order franchise, chronicles the compelling cases of the elite Special Victims Unit of the New York City Police Department. Created by Emmy Award-winning producer Dick Wolf, this award-winning series follows the investigations of Det. Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni), a seasoned, seen-it-all veteran of the unit, and his tough but compassionate partner, Det. Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay), as they try to solve the city's most heinous crimes. Directing their intense efforts is Capt. Donald Cragen (Dann Florek, reprising his Law & Order role), whose tough but supportive approach guides the entire squad - which includes Detectives John Munch (Richard Belzer) and Odafin Tutuola (Ice-T), forensic psychiatrist George Huang (B.D. Wong) and ADA Casey Novak (Diane Neal) - through the dangerous challenges they face every day.

The drama follows Det. Elliot Stabler, a seasoned veteran of the unit who has seen it all, and his partner, Olivia Benson, whose difficult past is the reason she joined the unit.
Overseeing the team is Capt. Donald Cragen. Cragen's tough but supportive approach to the team's complex cases guides the squad through the challenges they face every day. Also featured is Det. John Munch, a transfer from Baltimore's homicide unit, who brings his sharp wit, conspiracy theories and investigative skills. Munch is partnered with Det. Odafin Tutuola, whose unique sense of humor and investigative experience make him a great match for Munch.
Assistant District Attorney Alexandra Cabot, and her successor, ADA Casey Novak add a legal component to the series through their efforts to bring closure to the intense investigations. Also aiding the detectives is forensic psychiatrist Dr. George Huang, whose insight into the minds of the accused often provides significant clues that lead to the resolution of a case, and M.E. Melinda Warner, who helps the detectives get the evidence they need from the bodies they find.
I like this series for it's style and strong unique identity. Highly recommended!
I pre-ordered and was thrilled when it arrived. I have been a fan of the show since day one.
When I opened the box I was surprised to see that the discs had no picture on them, blanks ..they looked like second hand DVDs that you buy at Rogers.
I was expecting a bit more creativity in the design..The first box set was so beautiful
Of course this doesn't alter the quality of the show.

I really like this series, as I have all the Law & Order shows and spinoffs, but I'm curious as to why we are getting season 5 before season 2,3, and 4? Read morePublished on July 15 2004 by S. Cartwright
