Book Description

Feb. 15 2008 0070985219 978-0070985216 Canadian
The purpose of this text is twofold: to provide the Canadian engineering profession with a reference text on legal issues and principles of relevance to practising engineers; and to prepare candidates for Canada's professional practice engineering law examinations. The professional practice examination is now a prerequisite in many provinces and territories for licensure of Professional Engineers. Consistent with the purpose of the professional practice examinations, the focus of this text is to provide helpful insights into areas of the law of particular relevance to engineers in practice. This fourth edition has been prepared to update particular aspects of the law that have seen significant change through legislation or court decisions since the third edition in 1996.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poorly written and unclear Aug. 10 2011
By Tim
I used this book to study for the Ontario Professional Practice Exam because it was the recommended text for the law component. I found the book did not clearly explain many of the terms and instead dove into explanations and applications of concepts before laying the groundwork of even defining key terms. There were a few obvious typos and the author's explanation of rulings was usually unclear.

This book is at best useful as a supplement to other material and to get a feel for some case studies, but should not be your primary resource.

The book helped me pass my PEO exam. It is a great asset along with the other booklet and also previous exams for studying.

1.0 out of 5 stars Few points to review to get prepared for PPE June 16 2014
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
The subjects covered in the book are fine. As you may know, legal materials are hard to understand for regular people. most of the book contains long sentences which make it even harder and take time to absorb the meanings. The context should be more simplified and have shorter sentences.

This is a well written book which was ell worth the money that I spent. Should consider being offered in paperback at a lower cost.

This is a must-read to prepare for Ontario's Professional Practice Exam (PPE) exam. Has lots of useful case studies and explanations of all topics covered by the law portion of the PPE.

2.0 out of 5 stars The book was not assembled properly Oct. 19 2013
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
It was an interesting surprise to find that the book was not assembled properly. The hard cover was placed backwards. What I mean by that is that when you open the book you find the last page of the index and up side down.

I am not rating the content of the book because I can still read it, however, for the price I paid for the book, it was disappointing to find this poor demonstration of quality control by McGraw Hill. As far as material - paper, hard cover and printing - is concerned it is top quality no doubt about it.

Returning the book will cost me more money, so I decided to keep it anyway as my interest is in the content and not the assembly of the book. It was disappointing as I have high expectations from Amason.

Best Regards,

René Midence
