About the Author
Katie Kendrick is a mixed-media artist who has teaches regularly at both large retreats as well as small. Her work has been published in numerous magazines such as cloth paper scissors, Artful Blogging and Somerset Studio. She has also been a contributor in several books, including the following North Light titles: Artist Trading Card Workshop, Creative Awakenings, Exhibition 36 and Flavor for Mixed Media. Kendrick lives in Belfair, WA.

I am quite new to mixed media and came across this wonderful book while searching for books to learn from. It is full of bright pictures, clear explanations for a variety of projects that you can actually make and creative prompts. My favourite part is the 'supplies to gather'. As a newbie to this type of art, I found these lists took the anxiety out of shopping for materials that I was not familiar with. There projects are also geared for all levels. I highly recommend Katie's book to anyone that has an appreciation for great art books and mixed media.

I love using poetry in my mixed media projects, so I was really hoping to see some examples of that in this book. Unfortunately, there wasn't any. There really was no direction on how to incorporate poetry and words into mixed media pictures. There was quite a few ideas, which I appreciated, but I felt the name was a bit misleading.Instead, there was "poetry" in the form of tips about basically how to improve your life and do nice things with your art and art supplies. Some suggestions were donating old craft books or writing a letter to someone, for example. Good ideas, but not exactly what the title of this book suggests. Still, the book offers some good ideas for mixed media projects, and if you're looking for just that you'll enjoy it. 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful

Katie's charisma, artistic skill and years of contemplative study shine through this book. If you are looking for precise technique this may not be the book for you. This book, for me, is a creative catalyst, a colorful, soulful vitamin for my muse. Katie offers many new and unusual ways to play with creativity from the inside out. Laced with meaning and prompts for self inquiry, filled with gorgeous photos, and page after page of permission to explore my authentic style, it is deepening my relationship to my own self expression.

I just purchase this book around February the 1st and i just love this book so much. I love the way poetry is woven together in painting. Painting and poetry is are just one and Katie Kendrick painting techniques are right on being that I'm still a beginner when it comes to painting. Very powerful book and i will recommend this book to anyone who is new to mixed- media art.
